Just a heads up to ActiveRain members, there will be a whole bunch of site updates coming on Tuesday morning.  Many of these updates are based on member feedback over the previous two weeks.  Here's a bullet list of some of the updates, there will be more details Tuesday morning.

  • Members will automatically receive points when adding new neighborhoods through Localism, and members to previously added neighborhoods will be credited points.
  • We're adding the ability to make blog posts specific to communities/neighborhoods and and also providing a space for these posts to display on Localism.com
  • Due to overwealming support from our members, neighborhood content on localism will also appear at the city level, city content at the county level, and county content at the state level.
  • Tweaked the scoring engine for blog posts so that only the first 10 posts made in a week will automatically get 200 points.  It had previously been this way but had gotten disabled.  This change will NOT retroactively effect post scoring.
  • Dozens of small tweaks and bug fixes.

I'm sure these changes will all be good.  I especially looking forward tosee how Localsim will shape up.

as far as the first 10 posts receiving the 200 points automatically, how will this effect the posts after 10?

You guys are doing an awsome job and it shows in the search engines - Keep doing whatever majic you are doing!

Now Have a Blessed Day,

Matt & Crew,

Thanks for the post. These updates are great. The enhancements to the site are even better. Thanks for being receptive and responsive.

What?  No spell checker?  This is a first in blog plat forms.  I know I can use the spell checker in my browser but when I do I have a 50% chance of crashing and loosing my post.  Of course I can write it in a prgram with a spell checker and then paste but I get frustrated because a blog platfrom should have a speel checker.  We write, that is what we do.  The better the tools the better the writing.

You are definitely responding to the consumer, looking from their perspective.  That's the key.  No consumer, no localism.  Keep it up.

I love that only the first 10 blogs get scored.  This will mean better quality material for our customers!  I'm a new, small rain shower and I just love AR.  I'm working on creating some wonderful rain storms.

Looking forward to all the enhancements!  That said - I will leave the Active Rain server alone tomorrow morning to let the updates "settle in".

This is big news... my golf course reviews can now go straight to the community level and still be seen on the city level.  This is great news.  Thanks.

These updates are great news for us who have been adding content and not being able to see the results.  Back to work for me now, adding more and more content!

Thanks AR!

I think it did take away some scores this morning.  Did this happen to anyone else?

I'm exited about localism.  Still trying to tell if I can submit an article for it.  I can't see any way to submit articles yet.

I like the idea of the 10 post per week limit for the automatic 200 points.  I think it was easy to game up until that point with five bad posts per day.  I am guilty as charged. :-)   Now you will have to work for your points by putting up quality not just quantity.  Great idea to bring that back.

It also means that I can now think about my blogging as saying one really good thing per day and sometimes two.  Then I am done for the day instead of having to come up with five things to say per day in order to keep up with the joneses.  That isn't going to allow me to always say quality stuff.  This is good!

Thanks

Erik
