Who doesn't love gingerbread houses?
This year the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary is hosting its 10th Annual Gingerbread Benefit on November 29th. Top local chefs create exquisite, themed, gingerbread houses for a good cause.
The gingerbread houses are displayed in the hotel's ballroom where the day's events take place. The first event is a one-hour "Sneak Preview" of the gingerbread houses on display, and a chance to meet the chefs who created them. That's from noon to 1:00.
The second event, from 4:00 to 5:00, is the popular "Children's Tea with Santa." Children get to decorate and take home a gingerbread house of their own, and listen to Santa tell them a story. Hot chocolate and treats will be served.
The evening event, from 6:30 to 8:30, offers holiday music, beer and wine, along with savory and dessert delicacies. The gingerbread houses will be auctioned off. In addition, a silent auction will showcase donated items such as jewelry, travel opportunities, gourmet dining, and sports items.
All proceeds go to benefit Triangle Family Services, a local nonproft providing such programs as Individual and Family Counseling, Emergency Housing Assistance, Family Violence Intervention Services, and Consumer Credit Counseling.
