10TH ANNUAL GINGERBREAD BENEFIT NOV. 29

Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty NC Broker #178638

Who doesn't love gingerbread houses?

This year the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary is hosting its 10th Annual Gingerbread Benefit on November 29th. Top local chefs create exquisite, themed, gingerbread houses for a good cause.

The gingerbread houses are displayed in the hotel's ballroom where the day's events take place. The first event is a one-hour "Sneak Preview" of the gingerbread houses on display, and a chance to meet the chefs who created them.  That's from noon to 1:00.

The second event, from 4:00 to 5:00, is the popular "Children's Tea with Santa."   Children get to decorate and take home a gingerbread house of their own, and listen to Santa tell them a story.  Hot chocolate and treats will be served.

The evening event, from 6:30 to 8:30,  offers holiday music, beer and wine, along with savorand dessert delicacies.  The gingerbread houses will be auctioned off.  In addition, a silent auction will showcase donated items such as jewelry, travel opportunities, gourmet dining, and sports items.

All proceeds go to benefit Triangle Family Services, a local nonproft providing such programs as Individual and Family Counseling, Emergency Housing Assistance, Family Violence Intervention Services, and  Consumer Credit Counseling.

Dianne - interesting artistic endeavor, and a good coverage of the results with the different levels of participation. Somehow I feel a little peckish.

Hi Dianne. I have never attend an event of this type, and I would love to attend a Gingerbread house event in the near future. Music, beer, wine, and nice desserts will draw a large crowd for sure.

Dianne, that sounds like a wonderful event. I mean, who doesn't like gingerbread houses, even if not to eat at least to look at!

Hi Larry.  The fun of gingerbread houses is in the creativity, not in the eating!

Jerry, keep an eye out in your community.  Gingerbread houses are popular during the holidays!

Hi Sylvia.  I'm not sure what the fascination is with gingerbread houses.   Taking food and making it art?

Dianne,

I am with you on the art part of it.  I like my food presented well on a plate.  I don't want to necessarily bite into one of those gingerbread house that have been sitting around gathering dust.  I admire the artistry.  A

Dianne, My mom made us Gingerbread Houses and let us help decorate. We would make them look different every year. They hold a special memory with me because of the tradition my mom set with us.

Hi Alexandra.  I'm with you.  They really aren't intended to be eaten.

Debbie, Gingerbread houses involve the enitre household in the project, that's what makes them really special.
