BALLOT ISSUES
Avon
- Issue 5: Charter Amendment, Power, Election and Term of council, changing the terms of council members, and staggering of terms.
- Issue 6: Charter Amendment, Civil Service Commission. Approval will amend Article VI, Section 3 of the charter, “Civil Service Commission,” is a language change emphasize the Civil Service Commission operates under the city’s home rule powers and does not need to comply with the Ohio Revised Code.
- Issue 7: Charter Amendment, Public Bidding. Approval will amend the amount to $10,000 or less, that does not require public bidding for municipal personal property, and at $25,000 or less for municipal real property. The current charter language only specified the $10,000 limit for municipal personal property.
- Issue 8: Charter Amendment, General Provisions - Charter Review. The change calls for the commission to “be seated by City Council on or before Jan. 31 of that succeeding year. Should City Council fail to act prior to Jan. 31, the Selection Committee’s appointments will be deemed seated as of that date.”
Avon Lake
Issue 10: Avon Lake- Replacement of 1.25 mills and increase of .75 mills to be used to support ambulance, EMS services or both.
SCHOOL LEVIES
- Issue 31: Avon Local School District - Bond / 2.34-mill bond issue for construction of a new middle school.
- Issue 32: Avon Lake School District – 9.04-mill new money Emergency Levy for operating expenses.
LORAIN COUNTY
- Issue 49: Mental Health levy, .6-mill replacement levy
- Issue 50: 911 Levy, .5-mill replacement and increase levy
- Issue 51: TB Clinic Levy, .065-mill replacement and decrease levy
NATIONAL RACES
President Barack Obama: The president’s national campaign has been making stops in the Greater Cleveland area.
GOP Candidate Mitt Romney: The former governor has visited the area multiple times. He's been the subject of many Patch commenters, including those who responded to Patrick Giusto's blog on Romney and Donald Trump.
And expect to see items on the heated race between U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D), an Avon resident, and State Treasurer Josh Mandel, his Republican contender, who spoke against Brown at the September 2011 Tea Party at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon.
