An informed electorate is cornerstone of our great democracy! New Hampshire Citizens can vote at the polls from 6:00 am – 8:00 pm on November6th.
Did you know that in New Hampshire you can register to vote at the day of the election at the polls? So if you haven’t registered yet, you can still vote. You can find your polling place and other election information at the New Hampshire Secretary of State’s website.
If you still have some last minute questions about sorting out fact from fiction here are a few web sites I found both informative and entertaining. They certainly helped me discern who was giving the voters a snow job and who was telling the truth!
One site is called FactCheck.org. This is a non partisan site which is operated by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. You can find a lot of great information on this site.
The other site I found is called PolitiFact. PolitifactTM has a wealth of information along with the Truth-o-meter TM which gives you an indication of the truthfulness of a given statement or purported "fact". This site is a joint project of the St. Petersburg Times of Florida and Congressional Quality.
One of the most important freedoms we have in this Country is the Freedom to Vote. Hopefully, these sites will help you to get the facts you need to make an informed voting decision and cut through all the snow!
Know how each candidate stands on the issues from the proposed budget cuts, job creation, climate change, immigration, foreign policy, trade to taxes!
Important Information on the Voter ID Law in NH – you can vote without an ID – Please see below!
What type of photo ID will I need in order to vote?
For any election before Sept. 1, 2013, you will be asked to provide one of the following:
Driver’s license issued by any state (even if expired);
ID card issued by NH DMV (Division of Motor Vehicles);
U.S. Armed Services ID card;
U.S. Passport (even if expired);
Valid photo ID card issued by either the federal government or a state, county or municipal government;
Valid student ID card
Other photo ID deemed legitimate by the supervisors of the checklist, the moderator, or the clerk; or
Verification of identity by a supervisor of the checklist, the moderator or the clerk.
What if I do not have an approved photo ID?
Before November 1, 2012, any voter who does not present an approved photo ID will be informed of the new law and permitted to vote.
Between November 1, 2012 and September 1, 2013, any voter who does not present an approved photo ID will be permitted to vote after executing a “challenged voter affidavit.”
A voter who does not have an approved photo ID may obtain a free photo ID for voting purposes only by presenting a voucher from their town/city clerk or the Secretary of State to any NH DMV office that issues identification.
Is there any post-election action required by me after I vote without an approved photo ID?
After November 1, 2012, if you filled out a “challenged voter affidavit” in order to vote on Election Day, you will receive a verification letter from the Secretary of State, requesting confirmation that you voted in the election. If you do not respond in writing to the Secretary of State within 90 days of the date it was mailed, the Attorney General will conduct an investigation to determine whether fraudulent voting occurred.
