Salt Lake City shares its parks willingly

Brigham Young Memorial Park Salt Lake City

When you wander around Salt Lake City (and that is the way to really find interesting things) you might stop to rest in the Brigham Young Memorial Park and get a feel for the beauty of that man's garden.

This park is situated to the north of the Conference Center and the Plaza, not that far from his historic residences, Lion House and The Beehive.

Rest a while in the Park, and then you will be inspired by its activity. Active life size statuary - working  or playing.

Children play in the water feature near the working water wheel, men break stone, women tend the garden accompanied by children.

On a hot afternoon you feel for the girl pausing for a drink during her work.

All this activity is sure to transport you in time to sample pioneer life.

As you leave this peaceful park, you realize that you are rested, and definitely better informed.

Parks abound in Utah from the very small to the very large, each contributing to the beauty of the city.

Yours to sample when you choose to visit, yours to enjoy regularly when you decide to make the Salt Lake Valley your home.

Larry - Love the photo collage.  It really gives you a sense of what Brigham Young's Park has to offer.  Love all the statues; they certainly tell a story.  Thanks for sharing.

All - the parks are a feature of this area that I enjoy so much. The Salt Lake Valley was high altitude desert when settled. the great Salt Lake is as obvious salt, Lake Utah is fresh. Water for the area was gained from snow melt from the mountains. Early pioneers watered their land with aa intricate series of canals. Some are in use a block over from my street.

Hi Larry.  Those are wonderful statues!  They really do help us imagine life in those days, with its hard work and simple pleasures.  There's a lot of interesting history in Salt Lake City!

I really like those statues... I love art, I may not know artists by name but I know what I like.

Dianne - so unobtrusive and yet so involving and informing. They add to my understanding of the history.

Sussie - I agree. The statues are beautifully rendered almost like a perfectly posed photo of time past.
