I am an immigrant, I was brought up in the United Kingdom and always voted there as soon as I was able. I have never understood people who choose not to vote. It is your chance, however bad the choices to have a say and have an impact in the running of your country.
When I arrived in America, there was a period of several years before I was able to vote. I arrived on an investor visa, and we needed to apply for citizenship which took a long time and was extremely frustrating dealing with bureaucrats who even though I spoke English correctly made life extremely difficult. Did I say it is also a very long process as well.
I can tell you many stories about the immigration process and get very frustrated when Americans think people who want to be here avoid doing it legally because it is such an easy process, it is not easy even when you speak the language. If you have any problems with language, it becomes much harder.
But leaving that all aside for right now I vote because I am a citizen. If you grew up here then don't waste that right by not exercising your vote. Whatever it takes get to the polls, vote and make your voice heard.
Today, Seth Godin wrote about how people say they don't vote because the campaigns are all so negative, so vote for the person who runs the least negative campaign, even if it is only 1% less, eventually that will impact the campaigns and they will become less negative.
People in other countries line up for many hours to vote, this year there seems to be several lines at the early voting booths, but remember you have a choice, many of our servicemen have died bringing that right to other countries, so don't waste it, use it and go vote.
