Today is the day we head to the booth and cast our votes for President of the United States.
It has been an election filled with rancor and bad feelings on both sides. Supporters of each party feel very strongly that their party MUST win (and you cannot assume you know which party a person supports) in order to maintain what is good in America.
When the results are tallied, however, I think most Americans feel that we need to get on with the business of governing and strengthening our country. Whoever wins will likely not be given a mandate (if it is as close as the polls are telling us), and they need to govern with the goal of bringing us all back together as the best country in the world.
We are a privileged people; we can disagree and live freely to tell about it. As we move forward, I, personally, hope that we can work toward a country where we are not so polarized. There is good in each of the candidates--whether or not you support them. I ask that each of you give the winner the benefit of the doubt, even if it is not who you would have chosen. It is time to end the negativity and do the hard work that is required.
It is time that we as a people demand that our political parties do better by us...let's stop allowing our leaders to govern half the country and get back to being the UNITED STATES.
