Amarillo TX Working Ranch Cowboys Rodeo

The Working Ranch Cowboys Association’s World Championship Ranch Rodeo will be in Amarillo this week on November 8, 2012.  Based in Amarillo, this rodeo will celebrate its 17th anniversary with several teams competing and trying to win.  There will be 24 teams from all over the country, three of which are from the Texas Panhandle.

This year’s defending champions include T4 and Wilson Cattle from Hereford and Canyon, Crutch Ranch from Borger and High Card Ranch from Amarillo, TX.  Teams will be wild cow milking, which is much more dangerous than milking cows on the ranch.  Cowpokes will have to corral very large and unwilling cows and get a few drops of milk from them.

The milking of the wild cow is just one of the top events and it’s a crowd favorite.  After the cow has been roped, at least three members on the team will run to milk it.  Running cows boys that fall often can even be quite comical.  There will be tail pulling and choke-holding too along with many other fun rodeo events.

The Working Ranch Cowboys Rodeo is truly an authentic event.  These cowboys work hard each day on the range, they are the real deal.  Most of them like showing off their handy skills while having a little fun each year, and funds from the event will benefit the Working Ranch Cowboys Association foundation.  The foundation provides college scholarships to children on ranches and it helps cowboys and their families in times of crisis.
