Today is the day! Election Day 2012 is finally upon us and Summit County is ready. The polls opened in the morning at 7 a.m. and will be open all day until 7 p.m. to get your vote in. Although there are going to be six voting centers set up the high country is preparing for long lines throughout the day as people cast their vote.
Registered voters will be able to vote today either at the booth or drop off their mail in ballots at any of the polling spots as well. Local voters must bring a form of identification with them and will be able to go to any of the voting centers they like, as it is not required to go in your own town.
The voting centers that will be open today are the Old County Courthouse and the Riverwalk center in Breckenridge, Dillion Town Hall, Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco, the Silverthorne Pavilion, and also the Summit Cove Elementary School.
The last time there was a presidential election in 2008 there were more than 14,000 voters in Summit County, 87 percent of the local electorate, that came out and voted and so far for this year it is expected that more people are planning to head to the polls. This being said the county is warning voters to expect long lines today and people may even see some that are two hours long.
The lines may seem as a detorant but it is a great sign that people care about the country we live in and want to have a say. Please consider going out tomorrow and casting your vote as it is a big election year and your opinion is important! Summit County community members show their support and vote for what they believe taking advantage of their right!
