Eugene C. Figg, (August 4, 1936 – March 20, 2002)
Eugene Figg is responsible for many structural engineering breakthroughs and is famous for his cable-stayed bridge, as well as using segmental concrete construction in South Carolina. His passion for designing began in his early years in life through building scale models.
His training as a structural engineer started in The Citadel a military college in Charleston. During his career he made use of segmental method to span large gaps in the United States with Jean Muller who is based in Paris. Eugene had his own engineering firm called the Figg Engineering Group, the only national engineering firm that works only on bridges. They became North America's top designer for the segmental concrete bridge. One of his many major achievements is founding the American Segmental Bridge Institute in the year 1989.
He was also able to serve the National Building Museum as a trustee for four years.
