Tomb of UnknownsThe Commonwealth of Virginia. Home of eight presidents as well as number of other significant historical figures and their well preserved homes. Birthplace of America. And a General Assembly that is the oldest legislature in the western hemisphere.

From the mountains to the Chesapeake Bay to the Atlantic Ocean, Virginia has something for everyone and it's a great destination if you want to do something a little special for Veterans Day.

Of course, in northern Virginia, we have the Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, where, beginning at 11 am, a wreath is placed at the Tomb of the Unknowns, following by a ceremony in the Memorial Amphitheater.

Williamsburg marchA trip to Virginia would not be complete without a visit to Colonial Williamsburg. And in Williamsburg, they honor our military veterans with an entire weekend of events, not just one day. Oh, and active duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans, and their dependents receive free Colonial Williamsburg admission for the entire weekend, too.

At the National D-Day Memorial, a Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. honoring all who have served in the United Sates Armed Forces with music and tributes. Why Bedford, VA for the National D-Day Memorial? Because proportionally this community suffered the nation's severest D-Day losses. Bedford, VA is a great destination for those who are also interested in fine wines, delicious apples, rugged hiking trails and glorious views.

In the state's capital of Richmond, a ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial honors all veterans who have served the US past and present and remembers those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The American Legion, 11th District, co-hosts.

For a complete list of Veterans Day events and information on other Virginia destinations, visit the official tourism site.

We do live in a state that is so rich with history and things to do.  I love being a Virginian.

Thanks for sharing all the activities for Veterans Day in Virginia.... a day of rememberance of every single man and woman that gave their service and their lives for our country: freedom, democracy, the right to pursue our dreams, and a strong defense.  I am thankful and appreciative.......
