Clearly there are different needs for different generations of people in the real estate market today. Our market here in the Ozarks is a popular area for ones to retire. Generally baby boomers have lived through the good times remembering their childhood of the 50’s and raised a family in the suburbs in the 80’s, have been married for a long time or either recently divorced. As they retire though they are looking for more adventure and travel to fill their time, or even plan to continue working part-time at something they enjoy. Quite different from their parents before them, the Baby Boomers are not content with sitting back in a rocking chair. Most baby boomers want the freedom of travel and choose property that will allow them to downsize; something they don’t have to spend much time maintaining. When showing real estate to the boomer, keep in mind they usually want a home that is easy to maintain, one level, a nice view, close to convenience of grocery stores and hospitals yet with total privacy (sometimes). All one level is a plus, open floor plans, although basements are still popular for the kids and grandkids to visit. With all this in mind, the boomer has a desire to simplify and get rid of any clutter or unwanted things that weigh them down or add stress in moving. Style of living is important too, dated interiors turn most buyers off but especially boomers. Modern colors contemporary furniture, open, light and bright gives a young and fresh impression. With millions retiring in the near future, finding out what your boomer clients are looking for is important to figure out, now more than ever.
