As a professional, I am always looking for ways to cut overhead costs so that my clients get the best possible service.
Enter Active Rain.
You see, right now if you do a Google search for "Charlotte home loans" you will find about 228,000 websites. Many of these lenders and loan officers are spending big money to SEO companies to get into the top pages. And by big money, I mean THOUSANDS of dollars! Between "slick" websites and "experts" that promise first page placement, there is an endless array of ways to throw your money around. If you really want to be on the first page of google, you can do Adwords, which can blow through a few hundred dollars in ONE DAY!

You can blog.
On ActiveRain, there are 54 Loan officers and 18 Mortgage Companies listed in Mecklenburg County. That engulfs Charlotte, Cornelius, Pineville and Huntersville. Of those, only 10 members have any score above 2000 points. That means that only 10 have figured out how to blog. Those that are 5000+ points (only 6) are seeing the Rain in action.
ActiveRain costs me nothing more than 30 minutes a day. I blog here and on my own website (a couple small other places on occasion) and in only 4 months I have popped into the 4th place on the 1st page of Google (search "Charlotte home loans"). My visibilty is unlike I have ever seen, and that is thanks to AR. And I have paid nothing for it.
So let's hope the rest of the mortgage community doesn't figure this out. Not only am I more visible, but because I am not wasting THOUSANDS of DOLLARS to get found on Google, I CAN SAVE MY CLIENTS MORE MONEY!
If you are considering buying a home, or need to refinance your mortgage, go with a loan officer that is smart enough NOT to waste your time or money!

Great post, Ed! I love the free space on Google and Yahoo and the fact that we're moved farther up on the list than those who pay big bucks to be there.
