HP notebook or MacBook Air?

First off let me apologize if this post topic is redundant in any way... I was watching the NBC show this morning (yep, got caught on the piece about home mortgage issues) and saw the new MacBook Air.  How cool does that look?!

MacBook Air

I am in desperate need of a new computer.  My HP notebook is on it's last legs and I've been sharing our home desktop with my children.  (I never thought I'd have to negiotiate time blocks with my children about a computer).

Around 10 years ago I used a Mac at an old job and loved it, and with the new MacBook Air I'm really starting to rethink ordering another HP or Dell notebook... I've heard it's better for graphics, websites and such but I am unfamiliar with almost everything about Mac.

I'll do research to make sure all of my real estate programs & such are compatible, but I'm wondering how many of you out there have a Mac? Any pros or cons in regards to your real estate uses?

Thanks!

I have a MacBook Pro. My LOS software isn't compatible with Macs so I had a program called Parallels installed. It allows me to run both a Mac & a PC on my computer so that I can perform all of my activities.

I LOVE IT!

The MacBook Air however seems a little fragile for my taste. :(

I have had 3 HP AMD laptops over that last 9 years or so.  I keep getting a new one, just to get a new one. They are all still running and are in great shape.

Mac's are great too.

I grew up with Macs then moved to PCs and HATED them.  Now I am just used to them I guess; until my other-half bought a MAC.

I can make really good - professional flyers in seconds instead of hours.  I can photoshop pictures in seconds - it is Quite impressive!

The problem... I use Outlook.  I like Outlook. I know Outlook.  Oh but wait !  You can run windows on Macs and thus run Outlook!

When this PC laptop dies - I think a Mac will be replacing it.....

Go Mac...but I wouldn't go with the Air....it's cool looking, but rather fragile for our day-to-day use....

I've had a MacBook Pro for about 4 months now and absolutely love it!!!!!  It takes a little getting used to the mac way of doing things, but once you get it...WOW.  So much better than a PC.  I have a few real estate related websites/programs that are not Mac compatible, yet, but I too have Parallels for the occasional time I need to run my computer like a PC.

I did see the prices for the MacBook Air, and I think you get more for your money with the MacBook Pro...unless you really want a super skinny computer.

Thank you Ricardo, I will look into the Parallels program.

Jeff, I'm the same way with phones. I go through them so fast!

That's exactly why I'm excited about Mac, James! I love being creative with flyers.

Rich - fragile. That is a good point not too forget.  I have been known to toss my computer bag around when not thinking...

Thank you Chelle, I am going to definetly research the MacBook Pro.

Amy - We recently switched one of the computers in the house to a Mac and everyone is really enjoying it.  We still have the pc style as well though but I can see down the road being more of a Mac user completely.

i think the macBook Air is much nicer than any other laptop. I've purchased a MacBook Air and I'm really happy with it.

Here's a nice source for the comparison matters http://www.maconair.com/compare

Spokane Real Estate Agents I had a mac but for real estate they really are a good pick. Most MLS sites and many online apps don't work with the mac so I learned I needed  PC. Shame on Apple for not using that Ipod money to make a more compatible product. But for other uses It is good. I just don't think as a main computer it would be a good choice.

Thanks Lucy, I am glad to hear from someone that has one! I'll check out that article.

Very true, Ross. Nice touch with the picture, looks great!

Macs get good reviews and the software is supposed to be good also.  If you don't want to have to relearn all your programs the HP might be the way to go.  I use nothing but HP.

macs are great, just made the switch....there are some necessary add ons required if you're going to ditch the pc though.

I recently bought a HP laptop & it runs great looks great, but the keyboard gets a little funky...next time if I get another pc laptop I'll go back to the Dell

Great Post!

Since my wife is a Graphic Designer we have (and debate often about) both. The graphic thing reminds me about Sony TV's 10 years ago. Sony was far and away better. Now everyone is close. Same thing with graphics.

Sounds like you are used to the HP and are comfortable with the use and software. I would recommend staying with the PC (but the MAC looks a lot cooler)

Good luck

Tony

Thanks Tony, I am going to be staying with a Dell or HP however the MAC does look a lot cooler!
