Rezoning Harlem

The 10th Annual Regent Park Festival starts today through Saturday. There is an interesting line up of films and documentaries. The screenings will be held at the Daniels Spectrum [was dubbed the Regent Park Arts and Cultural Centre]. Admission is free, and seats can be reserved in advance for groups.

We are definitely checking out Rezoning Harlem, a documentary on the public process of revitalization and inner city development, which has a lot of relevance to Toronto's own urban evolution. There will be a panel discussion moderated by Jason Creed [Vice Chair of Regent Park Film Festival] with the film makers Natasha Florentino and Tamara Gubernat, as well as representatives from our local agencies after the screening.

Great local blog and I am sure folks in your area appreciate it. The Harlem aspect was interesting as I am a transplanted New Yorker.

I have just moved into a neighbourhood undergoing massive revitalization. After watching this movie, I appreciate what the builder and city officials are doing in Toronto to create more social programs, job creation and making my neighbourhood mixed income and mixed-use as well as moving previous residents back into the area. Harlem rezoning  example is displacing a lot of the long time residents. Interesting to see how real estate and politics are connected.
