Dillon Colorado announced today a long in the making plan for renovation of its marina. Consultants unveiled a plan to the town council and a small group of citizens. This has been long been in the making taking as much as 15 years to come to fruition. As a local I also feel its long over due. Although Dillon has a decent marina now the new plan is incredible.

The extensive renovation plan, commissioned by the town, includes construction of a two-tiered parking deck, reconfiguration of marina docks to minimize potential impact of any future drought, realignment of Lodgepole Street, and improvement and expansion of the Tiki Bar. The presentation attached no firm price tag to the total project, and the consultants purposefully divided the plan into 13 stages that could each be approached independently.
A combination of factors, recognition of the importance of the marina to the town and concern about its condition, decent financial shape of the Marina Fund and the town, and desire by town officials to develop a comprehensive land use plan for the entire waterfront area.
Possible impacts on view corridors and traffic, as well as lack of known financing constitute the majority of potential objections. The proposed parking structure designed to be cut into the hillside at the site of the existing gravel lot and able to accommodate 216 cars and 28 boat trailers and is sure to bring some controversy with the potential to block incredible views.
