South Kansas City Legislative Meeting w/Missouri State Legislators

On Monday, November 19th at 7:30pm at The Trailside Center, 9901 Holmes Rd., the new South Kansas City Alliance’s (SKCA) Government Affairs Committee (Doug Smith, Chair) will be hosting our first South Kansas City Legislative Meeting with our Missouri State Legislators from Jefferson City. Please feel free to attend to share your concerns with them. Spread the word, this meeting is meant for those of us that live in, or have an interest in South Kansas City. These state legislators represent the areas from the Plaza, Brookside, Waldo, Red Bridge, Hickman Mills, south to Martin City, Grandview and east to the city limit. Since we encompass most of their areas, 4th, 5th & 6th District Councilmembers are also invited to join us, too.

As of today, these legislators have committed (others may confirm later):
Sen. Jolie Justus
Sen.  Jason Holsman
Rep. Kevin McManus
Rep. Jeremy Lafaver
Rep. Gail McCann Beatty is tentative
6th District Councilman John Sharp

Neighbors, this is our chance to get to know our elected officials, including the newly elected ones. This also helps them to get to know us, their constituents and what our needs are. This organization, South Kansas City Alliance, is the new voice of South Kansas City – representing neighborhoods, businesses, civic, religious and educational groups. Membership is always open – we meet each month – typically the first Monday of the month.

We get to do a lot of our hands on work and planning to highlight the greatness, and the continued improvement of South Kansas City in our committee meetings. This is a wonderful place to live, work and play. We just need to make sure everyone else knows!

The current committees are: Government Affairs, Neighborhoods, Economic Development, Transportation, Communications and Membership. There’s still a chance for all of us to create the direction of our group. It belongs to us. I’ll post more on this organization in the future. If you are interested in participating in some way, or being on our email notification list, please let me know. Send me an email: StaceyKCAgent@gmail.com.
