Full Steam ahead for the final wine run of the season with the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad. The train departs the Yacolt station at 1PM on Saturday, November 24th for a ride over the recently restored trestle and the back-country of Clark County - literally over the river and through the woods.
The Wine Run takes you on a 10 mile loop from Yacolt to Lucia.You’ll see the Lewis River from a cliff-side vantage point and experience the darkness of a 350 foot tunnel carved out of solid rock. If you’re lucky, you might spot some wildlife along the route - such as a family of deer.
The 1941 Alco Diesel train stops at Moulton Falls Juction where you’ll warm up in the tasting room. Inside, there’s $5 wine tasting, music, food and other items for purchase with certain proceeds supporting the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad Fund to bring a steam engine to the line.
Be sure to arrive 30 minutes before departure to allow sufficient time to pick up your tickets and climb aboard the train. Tickets are 15 for adults, 14 for seniors (60+), and $8-$10 for youngsters. Recently, I feel under the spell of a the SP 4449, a historic steam engine that makes its home in Portland, OR. It would be great to have steam engine running on tracks in North Clark County, WA too.
