It is A Friendly Ghost....I Swear!

It is A Friendly Ghost....I Swear!

This is a unique situation, I haven't had it before.  Yes, I have sold estate properties where the person had passed away in the house, but nothing like this.....not where a child had died in the house.

Here is the story:

There was a little girl that had cancer.  She battled it for over a year....in that house.  And she tragically passed in the house just shy of her 10th birthday.  About 2 years later, her parents decided that they needed to move and get a fresh start...too many memories.

Cute ranch, nicely updated....no disclosure about the death.  No reason to do so right?  Well, my buyer purchased the home and moved in.  A few months later, he calls me in a panic.  He tells me that there is a problem with the tv in the living room.  It gave me chills when he told me what had been happening.  Whenever he would try to watch tv in the living room during the day or before 8 pm, no matter what channel he was trying to watch, the channel would keep switching to the cartoon network or Disney channel.  At first he thought it was a prank, a malfunction of the remote on his cable box.

And it got creepier.  One early evening as he kept trying to watch a "R-rated" movie and the channel kept changing, he was frustrated beyond all belief, he swore he heard a child's voice say NO!  Now, had he had a few maybe "adult" beverages?  Yes, but he swears it happened.

After a call to the listing agent and then to the previous owner, we found out about the little girl...and how she had practically lived in that room the last year of her life....in front of the tv.

Solution?  He watches tv in the lower level.

child dressed as a ghost

The ghost IS friendly.....as long as you don't change the channel!

I just wonder if someday when he tries to sell if this information should be disclosed?  I'm not sure that I necessarily believe it, but some people may want to know such things.  It is not an obvious or necessary disclosure legally, so I guess if a buyer is really concerned about it, they should ask.  Interesting story, huh?  Just when you thought you had heard it all!

Keep smiling!

Karen

Karen - that is amazing....but I do believe spirits and ghosts exist....he could have someone come in to do a cleansing, or he may want to do that himself....

I'm not sure, I'd smile in such situation.... it is scary a bit.

So, when he bought the house, a listing agent did not disclose that someone died there recently? ( 2 years ago only).

Hi Carol! I agree. Not sure I believe in it, but several of his friends have suggested the same.

Hi Doug! I agree completely. I am surprised they waited two years before moving forward with their lives. It would be hard to go through that.

Hi Bud and Beth! I can sympathize too, but I can also understand that the new owner doesn't want to appear to be a crazy person either.

Hi Inna! No need to disclose, it is not required in our state. And the buyer didn't think to ask as it was not an estate or no reason to think there could be something like this. Thanks for reading!
