Christmas Tree cutting in Jefferson County, CO - it has been a tradition for over 40 years in the Marshall household to go to the mountains for the day and cut a Christmas tree, and this year is no exception. There are plenty of places outside of Denver to cut a tree but our favorite is in Jefferson County. As a child, our family would join another and drive up to Boulder, tromp through the woods above the city until we found that perfect tree. We would cut her down, load her on top of the family wagon, enjoy some hot chocolate or hot cider and warm ourselves inside the car as we made the trek home.
I have lived in Colorado for all but the first four months of my life and I would guess we have cut trees for at least half of those Christmases. For a few years we lived on a few acres in the foothills and we could just go out in the back yard and cut our tree. Since we moved back to the city 20 years ago, we make the annual hike up to Jefferson County's tree cutting region and pick out a nice tall tree. We have an 18 foot high ceiling and my wife loves to have a tree that almost touches the top. For her it is more than a Christmas tree, it also serves as a birthday tree. Yep she was born on Christmas Day, so it is always an extra special time around our house, and we love to kick it off the day after thanksgiving by heading up to the Buffalo Creek Christmas Tree cutting area for our annual pilgrimage.
