Do you wake up with a plan? Do you make a "to do list" the night before? Do you just wake up and hope for the best? Maybe you should consider creating your very own Top 10!
I consider myself to be somewhat of a free spirit, one not fond of being categorized or labeled. However, I don't know what I would do without my Top Ten!
Each night before I go to bed, I write myself an email.
It usually starts with "Goodnight Cherimie, great job today". ( I can take all the encouragement I can get).
Then I let myself freely write 10 things that seem to be weighing on my mind.
The next morning, that is the first thing I read. It is also the first thing I address. I won't even log on to Active Rain unless my Top 10 are complete.
Why does this matter?
1. It gives me some amount of peace at the end of the day. By jotting down all my last moment concerns, my head hits the pillow light as a feather.
2. By only writing 10, the most important naturally appear.
3. It doesn't have the monotony of a to do list. Only the most pressing, most important concerns face me each morning. Once addressed, then I can attack the to do list.
4. It is a wonderful business journal. I organize them in their own separate folders. At the end of the year, the story they portray is always a reminder that activity trumps complaining any day of the week and that difficult days do in fact end.
5. It forces me to make time for myself, even if just to listen to myself about what is concerning me. (There is no way to explain that better:)
6. I don't wake the next morning with that "Oh no, what I am forgetting" feeling.
7. It is just as much personal as it is related to business. I don't limit my top 10 to real estate matters only. As a matter of fact, my first one for this morning was:
Call Dad, or be disowned.
8.By emailing myself, I know I will get at least one great email a day:)
9. It always helps me to better focus on those ever so challenging unexpected events of the day.
10. Last but not least, if Real Estate doesn't work out for me, I can always publish these things as "A Note To Me, The Last Minute Thoughts of A Realtor in A Down Market".
