This week, many family and friends will be gathering together to celebrate Thanksgiving together. Tables will be piled high with turkeys, hams, both sweet and mashed potatoes; Grandma’s famous cranberry sauce and lots of gravy. There will be apple, pumpkin and pecan pies and many “special” side dishes to make this a very festive event.
Unfortunately, not everyone is fortunate to have family or friends to celebrate this holiday with. Many are homeless or living in shelters. Many are still suffering from the ravages of Hurricane Sandy. These last few years have been very difficult for those who have lost jobs and homes. Perhaps you might find a little “extra room” at your table to invite someone to share your meal and home with them. Or you might offer to volunteer in one of the many shelters in your area serving meals to those less fortunate.
On this day, please remember to say a special prayer of thanks for all the men and women who are, and have been fighting to keep our country safe. They are truly our heroes!
I also like to think of this day as a day of “reflection”…….to think back and remember all the things that I am truly grateful for. So often we complain about various problems we might encounter throughout the day, and we forget to look upon all we are grateful for. When I stop and take a moment to do this, I realize I have much I truly have to be thankful for.
So, my friends, I wish you a wonderful day of reflection to remember all the “gifts” you’ve enjoyed on your journeys. May you continue to receive them, and most importantly, to never forget them. They are yours to keep….forever!
