My post yesterday Open Letter To HouseValues (CC. Active Rain) stirred up quite a bit of discussion, and I'm glad it did.

I think AR members need a chance to express their questions and concerns.  As Rich Jacobson pointed out, members have "vested a considerable amount of time and content", even though we do not have a monetary investment in the community.  In some part, our investment of our time and content is what created AR's monetary value.

However, that said, my tip of the day is found in the lyrics to this song:

Lyrics

Background story of Don't Worry, Be Happy

The artist is Bobby McFerrin (people sometimes mistakenly attribute this song to Bob Marley)

I didn't Know the history of that song, Cheryl. You probably noticed I didn't participate in the discussion on your last post. I was a lurker.

Well, it's all about A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E, isn't it?

I'm trying to get that tune in my head for the day.

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out later...I think you will start to see many changes. I can't predict anything but things will definitely change...they have to. Time will tell.

Being thankful is the ingredient for happiness.  It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.  And health is the number #1 importance in this world.  When we are healthy and our family and friends are healthy.  Then truly, there are no worries, and we can be happy.  Thank you for the blog. Hi Cheryl - thanks for that background on that song.  Four very simple words that really say so much - "Don't Worry, Be Happy"!

This line in your post says so very much as well, and I think it often appears to be overlooked at times:
"In some part, our investment of our time and content is what created AR's monetary value."

I'm glad the discussion on your post from yesterday took place.  Members really should be able to ask questions and express concerns without fear of being jumped on or attacked, especially given your sentence that I quoted above.  Thank you for your posts.

Cheryl, This is a wonderful song to sing ANY day!  I have some wonderful memories of being in Disney and we have a video of singing this song....it is certainly 'feel good' music!

Always a great song.  Choose happy, choose positive.  It actually works most of the time.  : )  Now if worrying actually HELPED anything, that would be different.  Since it generally just adds stress, which helps no one, it's not the best use of our time.

Cheryl...Like Missy, I was a lurker on your prior post.  Thanks for expressing our common concerns so well.

And, like you, I choose to Be Happy.  Same to you!

Cheers from Lake Anna,

Kathleen

"In some part, our investment of our time and content is what created AR's monetary value."

Actually ActiveRain has no value without the content of those that added it. The software/programming and domain name are worth very little and can be duplicated without much effort. The only value to AR is the content and the eyeballs of those that keep coming back and investing more and more of their time into something they have zero control or ownership of. Something to think about IMO.

According to Seth Godin: "Cat blogs are for, by, and about the person blogging. A cat blog is about your cat and your dating travails and your boss and whatever else you feel like sharing in your public diary." Well, I am the boss, my dating years are behind me, but I do love my cats.

Enjoy!
