I grew up in North East Yonkers in a section called Crestwood. On Friday via Facebook, I found out that one the the neighborhood's most iconic landmarks will close its doors on Nov. 25 after more than 47 years in business. Nathans Famous.

My family actually moved to Yonkers before there was Nathans. Prior to Nathans opening it was Adventurer's Inn. My father always referred to it as Adventurer's Inn which was also located at the Cross county Shopping center.

For every generation in Yonkers and Westchester, the Nathan's Famous hot dog restaurant on Central Avenue triggers memories. It will be replaced by a plaza mall with a small Nathans inside.

After hearing about the historic hot dog joint -- the only one of its kind in the county closing for a year on Nov. 25, people from High School converged on Facebook and had a reunion yesterday.

The following video was produced by Len Epand one of our neighbors growing up. Len became a top executive in the music industry and has produced some of the best music videos.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith (Steven Victor Tallarico,-) also went to Roosevelt High School in Yonkers. He is a few years older than me. The video is about Yonkers and Roosevelt HS class of 68/69.

I graduated in 1973 and thanks to Facebook I've been notified that my 40 year HS reunion is next year. One of my friends and classmate from elementary school through High School was Jay Walker founder of Priceline.com.

Maureen, Closing for a year to become a mini plaza mall. I hear  CVS pharmacy which is already accross the street will become the main tenant and Nathans will have a little location within the new plaza.

I guess "Nathans will have a little location within the new plaza" is better than it being GONE forever....  LOST.

Maureen, This has been a trend for many years. Small space or franchises of many food vendors are located in large venues like food halls in malls train stations and airports. What will be gone forever will be the game room arcade with pin ball machines etc. In the 60's and 70's there were no video games or computers. It's nostolgia for my generation because often Friday or Saturday nights in High School our night out was hanging out or meeting up there. We were able to hang out in the game room without having to eat or pay in the restaurant part. Oh, the good ole days. LOL.

Mitchell love the video.  I too hate seeing some of the old places disappearing, I suppose time changes.

Have a great week.

Mitchell,

Sorry to hear about Nathan's.  I'm not good at good-byes and changes like that.   I loved your video though!  The Beatles song was perfect for it.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Janice, Yes, it's been a few years. I don't miss High School at all. College was much better because I was on my own not living in my parents house.

Thanks Hannah. They are delicious but nobody makes french fries like Nathans. My grandfather used to order the frogs legs. He would say "tastes just like chicken"

Jennifer,  Thanks, time changes everything. "The times they are a changing"

DeeDee, Thanks. Most people don't like good-byes and changes to the norm. Happy Thanksgiving!

Mitchell, at least Nathan's isn't closing for good. I've purchased their hot dogs in the grocery store here.

Funny because I am visiting the town where I grew up and where my father still lives.  They've torn down my high school but the local hot dog joint remains.  Sort of a yin/yang thing going on here....

A "virtual reunion" to commemorate Nathan's - that's great!

Next time you are in Northern New Jersey, head over to Clifton and try the hot dogs at Rutt's Hut.  BEST dogs ANYWHERE. Get yourself a side of fries and a side of onion rings and when you order the hot dog, ask for a Rutt's Ripper and they'll think you're a regular.

I say there are way to many malls as is, keep Nathan's what a shame :( I guess at least they will have one inside but the atmosphere is never the same.
