How appropriate that we are having our second show on Moon Cycle work during the full moon.
Our guest, Allisone Weiss, is an expert on Moon Cycles and supports women in reclaiming their power by attuning to their menstrual cycle and the inner awareness that becomes available at this time.
Last week, we talked about using the time of the menstrual cycle to go inward and reflect, rest, and replenish. It can be really challenging to take that time for one ’s self. It is not how the world works, so we have to work it out in our world. I shared with Allisone last week about “day two” of my Moon (Menstrual) Cycle, when I am typically a bit foggy, lower energy, and feeling sensitive and introverted. Well, that day, happened to be today. It was interesting to view it from the perspective that Allisone gave me. Looking at it as an opportunity to go inside and connect with myself. Seeing the opportunity, I got present to the possibility that the “foggy day” I have resisted for so many years actually held the promise and possibility of attuning within myself, connecting inside and gaining insight.
Unfortunately, I let today be like any other day. I had a lot of activities and commitments to fulfill, and I struggled. In the past, I felt judgment that I am less “on the ball” on these days than normal. That I am forgetful, irritable at times, and tense. I felt all of those things today, as usual. The difference is I had a greater understanding of what was going on. I knew the irritability I felt was not PMS, some mysterious negative side-effect of menstruation. I felt irritable, honestly, because I knew I was cheating myself. I wanted to surrender to the desire to be quiet, to be alone, to sit a little longer in meditation, to take a hot bath, to breathe. And what I was doing was running kids around, pitching prospective customers, cooking, grocery shopping, and cleaning. The menstrual cycle isn’t a problem to be solved, fixed and symptoms covered up with drugs and loads of activity. It is a call to come home to one’s self, to step off the wheel for a day or so and be present with ourselves. I realized the tension I feel at these times is not a result of having a period. It is the impact of ignoring the call. Of making my external world more important, again, than creating that space to connect.
Ladies, we don’t need Midol. We need mindfulness. Let’s consider giving ourselves permission to create the space and allow ourselves to unfold and open to the gifts that want to come to us during this powerful time. Open to the energy of purification and drink it in.
Listen to our show on January 25th. I will talk with Allisone some more and we will explore menopause and how to use this time for your empowerment and growth. Tune in. Chat. Call in. Participate.
In peace,
