Asbestos dangers within the home. Inspection findings.

At Desert Sun Home Inspections, we want our clients to be safe in every way possible.

When ever we find issues with a hazardous materials within or outside the home we list this in the report for the buyer to be fully aware the issue is there and needs to be addressed.

Asbestos was used in the manufacturing of a lot of home products throughout the years. When it was determined that asbestos caused cancer in humans it was discontinued and has been abated from many homes. But the real threat of contamination continues with a lot of homes.

The homes that have asbestos need special attention when it comes to handling the asbestos.

Asbestos can be found in siding, roofing materials as well as piping insulation and vent pipes.

Abatement can cost a lot of money when it's done by a abatement company.

Extra caution should be taken when dealing with any asbestos material.

This home has asbestos on the piping as an insulator for the water piping within the home.

Asbestos on interior piping.

These pipes are located in the furnace room of the home.

Asbestos on piping in home.

These issues can be dealt with. It's how much do you want to pay for the abatement. It's not cheap.

Asbestos in attic on piping.

Here we have a close up view of asbestos on water piping in the attic.

There are issues within almost every home. This is one that bothers me. Especially when there are going to be small children within the home after the purchase of the home.

Have a great day everyone.

This is post Nineteen for the November Challenge.

Thanks for sharing this situation and your photographs.  Many families would not want to purchase a home with asbestos exposure.

Have an outstanding week and a very special Thanksgiving.

Clint, great information for us and the public, and asbestos does scare buyers, but if the seller has it abated, the fear is removed.

Clint, That form of asbestos is actually one of the worst because of how friable it is. Some asbestos is pretty well imbedded in materials that is not.

Hi Mr. Bond,

This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed for everyone in the home. Sad that it's still around.

Hi Dorie,

The seller will say the abatement would cost too much, then the negotiations start with the seller. Not a good day if your trying to sell your home.

Have a good day in Austin.

Hello Scott,

I run into this about 20% of the time. It's still around and it needs to be abated quickly.

Not a good situation for the seller or the buyer. Safety is number one.

Have a great day in Virginia.

Hi Mona,

If the abatement costs in the thousands, then the seller would remain reluctant to proceed.

If under a grand then the seller will probably go for it. Then the sale continues.

Have a great day in Sylva.

Hi Anita,

Yes it is. The buyers were asking all kinds of questions. The father that was there did know all about the abatement process as well. He may be able to lead the buyer in the right direction.

Have a good day in Warner Robins, Georgia.

Hey Al,

This is why I did make the recommendation the an abatement take place for the safety of the family.

Even though the dangers are slight if not "messed with". There is still the danger.

Have a great day in Ormond by the sea my friend.

Hi Roy and Delores,

Everyone needs to be on the look out for any asbestos. Even the Realtors who show and list the homes.

This way if found they can alert the home owners as to their next course of action that would be best for them.

Have a good day in the Kentlands, my friends in Virginia.

Hello Donald.

I have been around this type before. It falls apart just looking at it. Not a good situation f you need to work on the water lines in the furnace room.

Thanks for the comment and have a good day in the great Northwest.

Hello C.Lloyd,

Thank you, every inspector should know the dangers of asbestos. Many just overlook the dangers and list the homes as no issues when it comes to hazardous materials.

Have a good day in the Duke City my friend.

Hi James,

In the older homes there is still a lot of it. In the newer homes there are none.

Maybe to avoid this issue, buyers may want to look at newer homes instead of the older ones.

Have a good day in Rogers my friend.

 Best, Clint McKie

Asbestos can cause a myriad of health concerns for those who live in homes affected by it. It's vital that the homes that contain it are treated with caution and care by professionals. There are a lot of DIY improvements that can be made for homes, but dealing with asbestos is not one of them. http://www.atslabs.com.au
