Thanksgiving Recipe Ideas for Picky Eaters

If you are like me you have no problem finding all you can eat on Thanksgiving Day! I practically stuff myself to the rim. In my family, like most, there is those one or two people (many cases children) that are so picky it’s hard to please them. If you are having Thanksgiving Day dinner at your house you want to make sure ALL of your guests are satisfied with the meal and comfortable. This can be extremely hard when having to worry about those picky eaters. You know the Vegetarians, Vegans, dieters, etc. Now don’t get me wrong I have plenty of family and friends that fall into these eating categories so I know Thanksgiving is especially rough for them.  By rough I mean it may be harder for them to “pretend” to enjoy the meal.

I like to scroll the internet and find ideas that will help all of us. Below is a list of recipe ideas I came across that may be just perfect for those picky eaters. Take, share and enjoy. You may find yourself liking these recipes as well if you fall in to the picky eater category.

Broccoli Cheese Soup: Experimenting with classic soup recipes is a great way to include vegetables that otherwise are never eaten by kids. Most kids run away from broccoli, but one of the easy dinner ideas for picky children is making broccoli soup with a strong taste of cheese. Whether you tell your child about the broccoli or not is a personal choice, but by giving it a creative name it will be a sure shot hit with your children. And the best part is, that it is very nutritious.

Mighty Mac and CheesePicky Kiddos: Mighty Mac and Cheese: You can make this with or without the ham and tomato -- it's a really delicious cheese sauce. Pasta provides a good source of complex carbohydrates, so this macaroni will boost your child's energy levels as well as providing protein and calcium. Recipe Here

Crock Pot StuffingVegetarian You can prepare your Thanksgiving stuffing in a Crock Pot to save room in your busy oven on Thanksgiving day. And you can prepare a parve Thanksgiving stuffing so your vegetarian guests can also enjoy this delicious mix of toasted bread cubes, vegetables and spices. This recipe for kosher parve Crock Pot Stuffing tastes like it was cooked in the turkey, but it is actually prepared separately in the slow cooker.  Recipe Here

Picture of Roasted Squash Vegetable Medley RecipeFor the Vegetarian:  Roasted squash vegetable medley is a great side dish for a vegetarian. This recipe was created by Rachael Ray herself so I am sure it’s a hit! Recipe Here

Basic Vegetarian Gravy RecipeBasic Vegetarian Gravy Recipe. Making a vegetarian gravy can be a bit more of an art than an exact science, as timing, stirring and heat are everything! So add more or less liquid as needed, but remember, your vegetarian gravy will thicken slightly as it cools. Recipe Here

Vegan pumpkin muffinsThis healthy recipe for vegan pumpkin muffins comes from Sugar Ridge Retreat Centre in Canada. Owner Liz says it's the favorite muffin amongst their retreat guests every time. Made with whole wheat flour and less sugar than other muffin recipes, this is a healthy whole wheat vegan muffin for Thanksgiving, Halloween or anytime you're hungry for pumpkin. Recipe Here

Picky Kiddos: Turkey Nuggets: If your kids like chicken nuggets, they'll gobble down these turkey ones. This recipe is also a great way to use leftover bird. Recipe Here

Vegan whipped sweet potatoes Vegan Whipped Sweet Potatoes: If they're vegan whipped, does that mean they're whipped with a non-leather whip? Haha (this quote was too cute not to add!) No, it just means that these vegan whipped sweet potatoes are made with non-dairy ingredients, but they're just as soft and succulent as a dairy version, thanks to all the, er, whipping.

These super vegan whipped mashed sweet potatoes with sour cream would make a lovely side dish to round out a Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, they're also perfect for any fall meal or anytime you're craving sweet potatoes. Recipe Here

I hope these recipe ideas will help if you are struggling with planning a Thanksgiving dinner with picky eaters or if you are that picky eater. My grandchildren aren't picky but if I don't show up with Nana's special coleslaw (I know a bit outside of the box) there will be some upset tummys!!

What's your favorite?? Mine isn't listed but it's TURKEY, TURKEY TURKEY :) Do you have a recipe your family and friends expect each year?
