The Las Vegas Green Performance Network Joins ENERGY STAR® Campaign to Help "Change the World"

The Las Vegas Green Performance Network Encourages the Community to Commit to a Simple Switch to Energy-Efficient Lighting

Las Vegas, Nevada- December 28, 2007, Lisa Santacaterina of The Las Vegas Green Performance Network today announced that they have joined the national ENERGY STAR® Change a Light, Change the World campaign, a growing community of businesses, schools, utilities, non-profit organizations, individuals, and countless others who have made a firm commitment to help change the world, one light - one energy-saving step - at a time.

As part of this national initiative, The Las Vegas Green Performance Network plans to encourage  500 individuals to pledge to replace at least one standard bulb or fixture at home with one that has earned the government's ENERGY STAR label, as an important step to save energy and join the fight against global climate change.  The Las Vegas Green Performance Network will kick off its effort on January 1, 2008.  500 pledges could save 141,000 kWh of energy and prevent 204,500 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Every light changed is a step in the right direction.

"Like an increasing number of organizations, we want to do our part to reduce our country's greenhouse gas emissions and play a role in fighting climate change," said Lisa Santacaterina, "We are proud to spread the word about the difference individuals in our community can make by acting together to take energy-saving steps at home."

The Las Vegas Green Performance Network will encourage its community to make a simple, yet meaningful commitment by taking the online ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge. Lighting accounts for about 20 percent of the typical home's electricity use. Replacing standard lights typically left on longest at home with energy-efficient options that use 75% less energy is a significant way to cut energy costs while also preventing greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

"Becoming part of the solution to global climate change takes less time and effort than you might think. In fact, it can start by taking energy-saving steps at home as simple as changing a light," said Wendy Reed of the Environmental Protection Agency. "Organizations like The Las Vegas Green Performance Network are an important part of the ENERGY STAR Change a Light community who have committed their time to help spread the word about the need to use energy more efficiently at home. We are proud to work with them and with the Americans in every part of the country who have already pledged to change more than 1 million lights collectively."

The ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World campaign is a national call-to-action sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Housing and Urban Development to encourage Americans to use energy efficiently at home and to start by switching to lighting options that have earned the government's ENERGY STAR label for energy efficiency. If every American home replaced just one light with an ENERGY STAR, every year we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes, more than $600 million in energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.

About ENERGY STAR®
ENERGY STAR was introduced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce air pollution through increased energy efficiency. Today, with assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy, the ENERGY STAR program offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient solutions to save energy and money, and help fight global climate change. More than 8,000 organizations have become ENERGY STAR partners and are committed to improving the energy efficiency of products, homes and businesses. Michael,

Below is the information about starting your own 'Change A Light' campaign.

The Las Vegas Green Performance Network has made a commitment to do our part to save energy and help fight global warming. We have joined the national ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World Campaign as a pledge driver, by setting a goal to encourage 500of our members, family and friends to commit online to replace at least one inefficient light at home with a highly efficient ENERGY STAR labeled option. With your involvement, we can make this happen.

The pledge offers organizations and individuals alike a way to come together around a common higher goal and demonstrate a shared commitment to prevent greenhouse gas emissions associated with global warming, by using less energy.

You can join our pledge team by registering your office, school or group as a pledge driver and identifying yourself as a member of The Las Vegas Green performance Network's team. As a member of our team, you will be able to track your own pledges online, benchmark your progress against other team members, and see the impact of your activities as your pledges are counted toward your individual goal and the overall team's goal. We will recognize the pledge drivers who successfully encourage the most pledges on June 1, 2008 for their leadership in this effort.

Every ENERGY STAR qualified light bulb uses 75% less energy than a standard bulb, lasts up 10 times longer and can save about $30 or more in energy costs - while preventing more than 400 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime.

If our team reaches our goal of 500 pledges, we will make a significant difference, preventing approximately 141,000 kWh of energy and prevent 204,500 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Every light changed is a step in the right direction.

To join our team, go to http://www.energystar.gov/joinCAL, click on 'register as a pledge driver,' set a pledge goal, and select The Las Vegas Green Performance Network as your member group.

Thank you for supporting this important effort!

I have no idea what that strange comment means, but Kudos to you! If people realized how a simple step taken by a lot of people can make a huge difference, I think it would be much more likely that people would increase their awareness as well. You go, girl!
