Show your Support for Maryland Small Businesses
Skip the Malls this Saturday and enjoy a different shopping experience, November 24th, 2012 is Small Business Saturday®!
It is the U.S. Small Business Administration's mission "to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation."
The SBA recognizes the value of small businesses and I hope you do, too.
If you need ideas where to go on Small Business Saturday - or any other day of course - to support locally owned and operated businesses, here are some of my favorites:
- Seibel's Restaurant: a landmark in Burtonsville, MD, family owned since 1936
- Cricket Book Shop: New Hampshire Ave in Ashton, MD, est. 1969
- Sharp's at Waterford Farm: Brookeville, MD
- Westwood Unique Furnishings & Antiques: Triadelphia Rd, Ellicott City - located in an old church which can also be booked for private events
- The Pink Cabbage: Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD - 'Shabby Chic to Antique'
- Bean Hollow Coffee & Roastery: Main St. Ellicott City, MD - family run cafe with earthy charm & historic character
- Joan Eve & Ellicott's Country Store: also located on Main Street in Historic Ellicott City
... actually the whole Main Street is one of my favorite places to visit & shop, and so are Downtown Annapolis and Frederick
- Savage Mill in Savage, MD: can there be a more unique place to shop than an old mill that's also said to be haunted?
- Community Forklift: Edmonston, MD - green building materials, surplus & salvaged materials
Last but not least, of course, I have to mention Thompson Company Realtors where I am privileged to hang my license. This family-owned & operated business is one of the oldest Real Estate brokerages in Montgomery County, MD, est. in 1946. When you are ready to sell, buy or rent in Montgomery or Howard County, MD, I would love to help!
