I am on a rare vacation for St. Thomas, in the Virgin Islands. Yes, we do actually leave island occasionally for fun. Given my choices (our children live in New York and Chicago, not going either place in cold weather if I can help it) and my propensity for warm weather and beaches; St. Kitts was the perfect choice and my hubby is working there.
I arrived Monday afternoon, starting to take pictures on the plane and as soon as I hit the tarmac. There was a plane inside what looked like a temporary hanger, I took a shot. A monkey who tried to cross the road (I missed him, he was too quick but I had been told they are everywhere here). I asked the driver about the plane I photographed, he said it belonged to the people who owned the Marriott, that was the hotel I would stay in the next few days.
We stopped for a late lunch at a watefront restaurant, I took pictures of the beach, I forgot to take a shot of the Red Snapper I had for lunch it was steamed in a Banana leaf and the presentation was beautiful, (too hungry, I guess).
The Marroitt is a spectacular property. I took photos. We attended a roof top reception at sunset, the assistant manger took a photo of my husband and I. I thought it would be perfect to post on ActiveRain Facebook. I continued to take pictures on the balcony of our room, I noticed the shutter of the camera was staying open too long and the photos were blurry as I was moving before it closed. I tried to adjust the camera shutter speed. I saw a message asking if I wanted to erase the card, Oh no. I hit cancel. I thought I clicked cancel, I thought everything was alright as I closed up the camera, put it back in the case and settled in for the night.
The next morning, I went to the gym, ran on the beach headed back to the room to shower and go to get some breakfast. Came back to the room to post on ActiveRain, I must finish the 30 days of blogging challenge I am 21 days into it, vacation or not!!! Posted, made my comments. I decided I would try to post my photo to the face book page (potentially another 1,000 points) and perhaps draft my next post. It was a good time, my husband was at work (they don't observe Thanksgiving as a holiday in St. Kitts), I could steel some time without feeling guilty.
I slipped the card from the camera in the computer. One shaky picture from the balcony came up, ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!!!. Pure panic. All those photos, it is an 8 GB card. I snatched the card out of the computer ( a no no, apparently you should leave it in or at least properly eject it). Breath, think, calm down. I recalled a conversation I had with my cousin I just visited in Peachtree City, GA, during which she told me she had a similar scare. I searched online, how to restore pictures on a memory card and many options came up. I did some quick reading downloaded some software and voila, my photos were restored.
Decided this post would be a good way to releave the tension and perhaps share with you all.
I am headed to the beach sans, camera to relax!
