Looking back with fondness. A Thanksgiving remembrance.

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

A Thanksgiving remembrance.Immune to the din of her shrieking brood,
She skillfully crafts the feast day food,
And presents the laden table to all those invited,
The roar now silenced as grace is recited!
   (R Weisser Thanksgiving 2012)

Looking back as an adult, I wonder how my mother did it.

There were twelve of us on an ordinary day, but Thanksgiving brought grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins to our house for a big, noisy, day of revelry.

I can’t even begin to imagine how much preparation and work it took to create such magical memories for us. And while I may not have appreciated the incredible logistics of producing such a festive event at the time, I sure do now!

And while I am no longer able to thank mom in person, I want her to know that I am grateful for all she did to make Thanksgiving so special.

And I still look back with fond remembrance on those special times!

Hi Richard.  Coming from a large and energetic bunch, getting dinner on the table any day was a logistical nightmare, but Thanksgiving Day or any holiday for that matter was even more crazy in our little house.    I don't know how they did it, but I do remember how much fun it was with all the relatives coming and adding to the excitement.   The day started with waking up to the smell of the bird in the oven.   Gone are those days, but still remembered fondly!

Mom's can do magical things with a smile all the while. Now that I'm old enough to appreciate all that she does, I try my best to take over some of that responsibility when family gathers at the Holidays....but she still insists it's no bother and does it all again

Hi Richard.  Very nice.  Made me well up at the end...

It sounds like your mother was what I call a "Supermom!"

Happy Thanksgiving!

One thing about a large group there is usually enough people to help if you have the room for them to do so.

Richard, I concur... Thank's mom! I remember those Thanksgiving days with aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, and friends of the family. And through all the noise and chaos in eye of the storm was Commander Mom churning out one lovely something to eat after another... Great memories. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the day.

Richard, I remember my mom saying she would work for days preparing to only see it all disappear in 30 minutes. It was so good.

I enjoy any holiday that I can still spend with my mom.  We did the restaurant thing this year. Mom didn't want to cook and we cooked a turkey last weekend and shared (so we could ask her to make her famous turkey soup lol).  Bottom line, she didn't want to do a big gathering because she's going to Vegas in a few days to win the mega bucks!  lol

Thankfully I still have my mom in the picture. But she has rode many a rodeo on Thanksgiving and many other holiday meals.
