We are extremely fortunate to live in North Carolina! We have the mountains. We have the ocean. We have art, culture, technology, great food, even furniture.

We can find just about anything we need and want made right here in our backyard. That is exactly why it's never been easier to avoid the stress of crowded malls this Wonderful Holiday Season by shopping at locally owned businesses.

This upcoming Saturday, November 24th is Shop Local Saturday!

With all the fantastically talented local artisans around here making everything from scratch, you can find anything from home made pasta, honey, locally-made furniture & so much more. We can be sure we'll find everything on our holiday list exploring our downtown shops from Clayton to Cary & Chapel Hill’s Southern Seasons.

Here's is a list with just a fraction of all the fabulous little shops we frequent including my personal fave: Once in a Blue Moon Bakery. Do you know what heaven tastes like in the form of butter, eggs and sugar?

I hope you will commit to shopping local this weekend. It's never been more important to pour our hard earned dollars back into our local communities.

I'm with you, Sharon. I live in Carpinteria, one of the nicest small seadside towns left in California. We always make a point of supporting our local shops. The 1st Friday of every month, all the local shops stay open until 9PM showing their local customers their appreciation by serving them snacks & beverages, and offering special sales. Small town America is alive & well in North Carolina & Central California! Happy Thanksgiving!

Congrats on the feature. I have often wondered why people leave St. Thomas and move to North Carolina. Now I know  some of the reasons why!

Sharon, shopping with locally-owned businesses is such an important thing to do.  It is difficult for them with all the big-box stores around... but somehow we all need to remember them.  Great post!

Local businesses are the best! We always try to support them in hopes that they will stay around. it's so hard for them to compete. For example, an independent book store practically has no chance as it can't afford to discount like the big chains or Amazon and it's so wonderful to have them around. Sometimes I think independent book stores should be supported by the community to some extent, kind of like public libraries.
