Thankfulness and Forgiveness

By
Real Estate Agent with The Mayer Group of eXp Realty
I love the idea of Thanksgiving. With everything going on in politics, the economy, and worst of all no more Twinkies, its important to keep the proper perspective.

In real estate its easy to get down, resentful, and even feel sorry for yourself at times.

You know, when the client stops answering then you find out they closed with someone else or your friend or relative didn't use you, it hurts...

How about when the agent on the other side is less than cooperative or polite?

Try being a lender!

Then when people are straight up mean or dishonest it can get really ugly. In this business its hard to keep a positive attitude every day and not let those negative thoughts take over sometimes.

When I got an email recently that said basically thanks but I have been ignoring you and I just closed with someone else sorry... I heard this loud voice in my head

Thankfulness and forgiveness!

Thankfulness and forgiveness!

Thankfulness and forgiveness...

All day I had to work really hard to focus my thoughts on what I was thankful for and forgive those that have hurt me because I have been forgiven.

Resetment is like drinking poison and hoping the other person gets hurt...

Here is my list, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

-We live in relative safety in the greatest country on earth

-Access to clean water and abundant food

-The best doctors and hospitals on earth

-Comforts even kings never had; heat and AC, electricity, hot water, vaccinations, and the list goes on and on...

-This year especially I am thankful that my preemie Preslee Rose who was born 2 months early is healthy and happy and my wife is expecting again!

-My wife is loyal to me and loves me

-My business has taken off in 2012 thanks to many of you!

So on Thanksgiving no matter what you are going through or how things are going, we are truly  blessed and have so much to be thankful for!

Brian...well said...we all far too often we get caught up in the day to day activities and forget what's most important in life...love, family, health, and the riches that we're blessed with...hope and pray that you and your family have an awesome holiday season.

I will miss the the Sno-Balls, but there is so much to be thanksful for as you stated.  Add up all the little things, and you have one big thing.  Maybe gratitude is a fying attitude.  If things are bad, they can only get better.  Have a great weekend everybody.

Hi Brian - Yes, it is good to be thankful for all you listed.  I agree with your list and I agree that it is helpful to use thankfulness to soothe our feelings of resentment when we work so hard for clients who treat us like it is OK to be used and abused.  It is, sadly, the nature of our business, but looking on the bright side, like you did in this blog, is a good idea and helps.  Have a great weekend.  Ellen

I have not been in your shoes, but I think that we all equally experience both unprofessionalism and inefficiency. That's why we should all be thankful for our wonderful teams ;-) I know that I am.

Brian:

It is easy to focus on the negative things that happen to us.  But it is not worth spending your time and developing an ulcer focusing on something we can't change.  I like your mantra.  Thankfulness and forgiveness.  Congratulation on the baby on the way and your dear preemie Rose.

Brian - Ain't it the truth?  I feel like elements have come together to create a perfect storm of outrage.  Thank goodness the election is over.  And although I haven't had a Twinkie in years, I suddenly now want one.  One thing I have learned about life is there is power in surrender.  That power comes from giving up the struggle you have little control over and cannot win.  You can use that energy to focus on the things you can change.

Brian, Love the two sides of this. It's especially important at Thanksgiving, as forgiveness keeps your heart free to be thankful! I'll skip the poison, though its tempting..... All the best, Michelle
