UPDATE: With all the questions on HOW to add your blogs, I thought an addendum would be appropriate here.

Get the feed URL for your blog. My AR blog feed is: http://activerain.com/blogs/dazzled/atom. Often on an outside blog, the URL will be simply http://myblogname.com/feed.

Using 2RSS, the first in the list, as an example, especially since it can be a little more complicated - click on the link that tells you how to convert an atom feed. Take that link and enter it, choose a category and a descsription of your blog, and enter. It's that simple. They will start pinging your blog and your new postings will be syndicated throughout the Internet. The more the merrier, so work your way down the list and add your blog to each of them.

If you want a RSS feed button, you can choose from a whole slew of beautiful colors to coordinate with your blog.

Interesting, I didn't know there were rss directories.  Do they help with SEO or are they only good for traffic.  Also, should I submit to each one or just a few,

I realized that some of you don't understand the process, so please read my update on how to add your blog to an RSS feed. RSS feeds will bring traffic to your blog, and a good possibly of links to it also.

01/26/2008 09:34 AM by Kay Frenzer ~ Real Estate SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Kay, I have a questions for you.

Unfortunately my wife just drove off to meet a relative, going through some tough times, worse yet, the reference material for this question, was in the car. So, I'll trudge on and attempt to describe, what I read somewhere.

I like having an advantage over my competition! And if that means Not having an RSS feed on my website, then so be it.  It's my understanding that an RSS feed, alows the competition to snoop around on your website, to see Who has been there? What they have looked at?, Etc.,.....  If that is the case?  Your competition gets to learn tricks you are utilizing to maintain your advantage, which they would certainly copy and use as well.  Worse case scenario, then you are also making your site Vulnerable to Hackers?

Please don't miss understand me, I live for techie/techno advantages.  But why give the competition any help?  Maybe I'm being paranoid, maybe I'm hindering myself and my page ranking and SEO stats, what do you or others think?

01/27/2008 10:36 AM by Martin

Martin, RSS feeds don't pull any analytic data from your blog or site - only the content. You're not helping anyone but yourself by implementing a RSS feed. If I want to learn about how a site gets its rankings, I can do it without utilizing anything but my wits and a few handy dandy tools :).

thank you for the list. very resourceful

Good post, But, unless the actual page you are submitting to (not the home page of the directory) is a pagerank above your own, these directories are useless for backlinks.  And any directory that requires you to put a reciprocal is USELESS. Be careful of directories, the only ones that matter are the big guns like Dmoz and Librarians Index.

01/30/2008 07:35 PM by Mary McKnight (NOT RSS Pieces)

Mary, these are not link directories. They are RSS feeds and are not used for backlinks, per se. Nor do they ask for reciprocals.

Additionally, your comments about link directories are incorrect. The page does not have to be a certain pagerank to be valuable. One should have links from both high ranking and mid-level directories. Dmoz has lost some creditability and may become obsolete in time, although it is still very worthwhile to get a link from. There are some very good and valuable link directories available that will give a lot of credibility to a site. I agree that one should not put a reciprocal link to a directory.
