Here's your Friday chuckle: ( this is true )

My daughter was setting up showings today for tomorrow. The listing office told her to call the seller. So she called and said,

"Hi, this is Christa from Keller Williams and I would like to show your home tomorrow between 11:00 and 12:00."

Silence

"Sir, would it be possible to show your home tomorrow?"

"Oh, hell.........I'll have to get up and clean up the house"

In this market, in sub degree weather, is this seller motivated or what?

Seriously...this happened 5 minutes ago.

When do you think the last time they changed the furnace filter?

Usually ask next "Would you rather we not come?" I also give the listing agent a heads up when this happens.

I can imagine what the house looks like. You'll have to let us know.

It could be worse, the seller could have said, "don't mind the mess, the dirty dishes on the counter or the mountain of laundry in the bedroom."

Good thing there's a lot of inventory out there to choose from. If I were in your daughters shoes, I would have just told the seller not to "worry about it. I have lots of other homes that I can show my clients." Maybe that would be the catalyst to get him out of bed earlier.

LOL...Go figure! I bet the house is a real mess and the seller? Very unmotivated. Thanks for the chuckle.

Missy, I don't think I'd get to excited about showing that property. I guess maybe he doesn't really want to sell. Good luck!!!!

Missy - That is TOO funny! Your poor daughter - how do you respond to that? You'd think they would be excited! I had given a seller a one hour time frame that I'd be bringing my buyers by and he told me if "I" wanted to see the house I would need to call him 15 minutes exactly before I came because he was working on confidential documents at home and I was inconveniencing him. He actually said that to me!! I very politely told him I would see if my clients could rearrange their schedule of the 15 homes I had to show them and I'd get back to him. He quickly changed his tune!

Widggy, Thanks, that was a good one. I had a seller who never opened their home finally canceled because the stress of keeping the house clean was just too much on them.

Optimist that I am..... (yeah, right) I am thinking that he wants to make sure his house is in tip top shape for showing and he accidently voiced what he thought was just in his head. Are you showing?

Maybe Christa just caught him in the middle of Oprah...

I was thinking the same thing.....he just said what he was thinking.....not reall y meant to be heard. It is funny though :)

People never cease to amaze me. Hard to believe people still don't get it.

Take your time getting there, give him more time to "pick up" a few more items. This happens to me all the time, but it was a good chuckle to hear others go through the same all over this U S of A.

Yep, they've all lost their minds - I tried to set an appointment to show anupscale property tomorrow and the listing agent told me I would have to wait until Monday and I would have to go "during work hours"!

I just sat there waiting for an explanation - death in the family, sick kids or what - finally she said her seller did not like to disrupt their family time by having to leave for weekend showings. I said sorry, my buyer is flying out on Sunday and is going to by a house this weekend, her reply "thank you for considering showing it". I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

Missy - I am not surprised or shocked. Just figure on having it for awhile.

"Well thank you sir, we'd really appreciate it! That'll be around lunchtime, how bout' some sandwiches and cookies too!"

Well, I guess his attitude depends on many things we aren't aware of... but it sounds like just exactly what he was thinking rather than his being unappreciative. (Maybe?)

I was on the other end of one of these today - I had an agent call from the driveway - we got them in - but an 11 year old had prepared the home for showing in 3 minutes -

Missy~this is probably the seller who calls the agent every day asking why their property as not sold yet.

I'm so glad we never have to talk to sellers in scheduling appointments...on other companies listings just the showing service, front desk, or listing agent gets to hear that sort of thing.

I was turned down on a second showing last week, on a condo where there are four more units available.

Wouldn't it be great for the sellers if the buyers did not even have to view the interior of the house. Just look at the pictures and purchase the home. I don't think it will ever happen, but the sellers would love it.

At least he mentioned cleaning! I have shown many homes where they didn't even bother to do that. Funny story!

Funny but I do agree with Jason, at least he thought about cleaning. Be thankful the small things! LOL.

well gee.... your daughter IS showing the house kind of early... I mean 11am??? Wow? Is'nt everyone sleeping at 11am...

Missy.... gotta love it.... Have been to a few where you think....are they really trying to see this house.......

If cleaning the house is bad....I bet he would be a real pain when he gets to home inspection! He might not ever see a closing.

Like the motivated seller bit here. We've got one right now that's a real doozy. He'd be motivated if we gave him an offer in cases of beer... and you know the rest of that one.

Missy - Call me devil's advocate again here, but there could be another explaination... The seller might work an odd shift and perhaps was catching a nap when the phone rang. That would explain the silence. Another possibility is that they are selling due to health reasons. When confronted with something like this, I usually ask if there's another time that would work better. One time I found out they were having a teenage party with some sleeping over and it took the parent a moment to figure out if she could get everything done on time. As a mother, I understood. We agreed on a slightly later time for breathing room. Another time I found out the seller had just had surgery and medication was to blame.

I'd be curious enough to read a follow up to what happened here.

I am amazed in this market that some sellers continue to make it difficult to show their homes...no matter what hours they work!

Check the days on the market. If it is not selling you may have the first hint.

Also shame on the agent. I never have the buyer's agent call my clients to make a showing appointment.

Good point Randy... is that the practice in your area? To have the BA call the seller to set showings, or is this a "limited" ie: I got your money and dont care if your home EVER sells... broker you were "working" with?

Randy and Mark, in our market very few Realtors have us call the sellers to set up showings. Only the discount brokers and that is usually in the remarks. This was not a discount broker.

Hmmmm .... I guess he thought the cold would keep people away --go figure!

I have a seller that refuses to let me know when theyre in town for the weekend so I can just "OK" showings. I repeatedly asked, just text or email me, "We're in town until 5:00 sunday". It is infuriating.

Missy.... from reading some of these comments, realtors do business differently in some areas. ..when it comes to showing homes and setting up appointments. What kills me is how can someone actually think that they can sell their house as a mess.

That''s funny - some sellers don't expect to have to move out... I wonder if it's overpriced too?

I have helped a few sellers that act like that, i try not to do that anymore.
