There's a special little place in Rio Rancho called the 
"The Bagel." It's a deli and bakery that features-you guessed it-bagels.
You might not think this is all that special, but here in the wild west it's pretty hard to find a good bagel. There is Einstein Bagels on the other side of town, but the bagels there are not quite the same. And the grocery stores? Forget about it, if they have something called it a bagel it's just a donut shaped piece of bread.
Besides, these days with so many little ma and pa shops being forced out of business by the the chain stores and restaurants it's refreshing to visit an old fashioned place.
At the bagel you can choose from several different types of bagels to go, breakfast bagels and bagel sandwiches made with Boars Head deli meat. Or you can do like I do and get your bagel with cream cheese and lox fix there as well.
Be forewarned if you go there on a saturday morning it can be busy with lines all the way out the door at times, but they keep it moving pretty quickly. On days like that I get my bagel to go.
The Bagel is located in a small store front right next to the Smiths Grocery on Rio Rancho Blvd.
