During an amazing Thanksgiving Holiday in Destin, Florida, I had plenty of time to stroll the beach and ponder 2013. There's something about getting away from it all to remove the "noise" from one's thinking. For 2013 I plan to remove some of the noise from my business. Let's take a look at my plan for 2013...
1) Focus on the big rocks-- Big rocks signify what is MOST important in our business. Too often, we burn daylight with pebbles, while the boulders are neglected. Prospecting is my largest rock. I am going to time block prospecting five days a week. NOTHING that doesn't involve rushing to the hospital will get in my way.
2) Removing that which frustrates me-- In 2012 I decided to help an investor client out and do some property management. I would rather sell outdated encyclopedias door to door than manage rental property. My investor is getting 30 days notice this Monday.
3) Goodbye to the classroom-- This one stings. I LOVE teaching college courses. To this day I teach two night courses a term for Northwestern State University. After all, it's only 8 hours commitment a week, what's the harm? 8x 16 weeks= 128 hours effort. That's over THREE FULL weeks effort over a term. Imagine if this time were invested in prospecting? But leaving what you love is still tough.
And now my "Why"...
4) I will spend three weeks in 2013 on the beach-- Ever spent a lazy afternoon building a sand castle with your 5 year old? I have, and to me this time is more important than driving a fancy car or getting cheese on my hamburger. My youngest child is getting older, these days will be gone before I now it. I plan on making 2013 count for my business and my family.
