McDonalds Invades France. French Retaliate by buying up Oceanfront Condos

By
Real Estate Agent with Oikos Realty, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach Florida

In 1991, my ex wife Nancy (pictured below) and I only saw one McDonalds in Paris and I snapped a photo as a curiosity. There are now over 800 McDonald's in France, and José Bové (the farmer turned activist who in an act of civil disobedience drove a tractor into a McDonalds) aside, the French just love McDo (pronounced Mac Dough) as it's called in France. The first McDonalds in France was built in 1979 and is located in Strasbourg's Les Hall shopping center.

Europeans, particularly French, have been buying more property in Florida in recent months as well. “The real attraction here is cheap, cheap, cheap waterfront real estate. These buyers look at this and think it will never be as affordable again.” I think I may have to put an ad in France to attract more of these Americanized Frenchmen :-) I know in my area, there are already quite a few French Canadians who have bought winter home condos. Parlez vous Francais?

A French McBaguette. No need to carry French bread under your arm any more. I wonder what wine goes best with this?

Looks like you had a good time in Paris.  Yes the foreign market widens when the dollar is devalued.

John, good post, and good point; many of our buyers are from abroad, and they do recognize value...

Carol - It seems they recognize the value more than Americans sometimes.

John,

If my McD's had bread like that, I'd be there more often. As far as the French buying up properties...sales are sales. Realtors don't discriminate.

John - I find it so amazing how the globe has changed so in the past couple decades.  It almost seems a travesty to have McDonald's in France.  I'd settle for most any wine available to go with that sandwich. . .It looks wonderful!

Hi Rich - It looks good to me too. Francs will work just as well as dollars in my book :-)

Hi Myrl - The French are eclectic to say the least. A nice Pinot Noir would work well with the McBagette :-)
