Our beautiful MaizyI Didn't Know It Would Hurt Like This

There is so much I am thankful for but today I'm feeling a little melancholy. Our beloved family pet, Maizy, of 11-years passed away today. It was all so sudden. I can't go into all the details right now as I'm still a little fragile but, suffice it to say, she is gone.

I feel so silly. I've experienced pain before. But the passing of my dog has taken me a little by surprise. I didn't expect to feel so sad. Unfortunately, this occurred as my kids were heading back to college today. They are having to deal with this grief on their own--away from their dad and I. So, please keep them in your prayers as they mourn the loss of a member of our family.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Tammie! Maizy looks like such a sweetheart. I know how it feels...they bless our lives for a short time, and when they go, they leave big holes in our hearts. Hugs to you and your family at this sad time.

Oh I know this feeling too well, and it just stinks.  Pets are like family and it is a true loss and your house feels empty.  It gets better with time.  My heart goes out to you.  I've been through it with cats and dogs and it always makes me sad.  Hugs from NY.

Tammie, Our condolences.  It's never easy, and no matter how many times we've walked this path it doesn't get any easier.

my heart reaches across to yours and I give you a big hug. We added dogs to our family just 6 years ago when we became empty nesters.  I never knew I could love a dog SO much.  But just know two things.  I'm prayers for your family to have God's grace in healing you tender hearts and two... all dogs go to heaven.

Brenda - Thank you.

Rose - Yes, they do.

Debbie - It happened so suddenly. It's hard not to feel some type of guilt.

Bliz - My mother has gone through this process several times. I don't know how she does it.

Tammy - I hope so. It would be nice to be re-united with her one day.

Michele - I'm a mess. My kids had to go back to school and throw themselves into their last three weeks of finals and papers. I worry that they'll have to set their grief aside in order to finish strong. It may be difficult when they walk into the house for the first time and aren't greeted by the dog. I know it was difficult for me.

Good morning Tammie. I am so very very sorry for your loss. Maizy was a beautiful girl and her eyes said it all. There is no pain like this and it isn't silly, it is human, Our pet kids are always there, always responsive and always appreciative of us no matter what. When they go, you just can't believe it. Everything is different and it hurts so much. I am very sorry for you and the family. No pet can ever replace another but I hope there will come a point in time when you honor your Maizy by rescuing another who wouldn't make it otherwise.

Tammie, whenever I lose a pet I say the same thing, but it is honoring the lost by helping the living find a place of safety and love. If I can ever help let me know.

Sheila - Thank you I appreciate that. I just need to give myself some time. It's difficult because I work from home and she would always lay at my feet and sleep. I'm having difficulty sitting in my office so I went out and previewed today.

I'm so sorry, Tammy, our pets play such a crucial role in our lives and they are family, no matter that some outsiders might say. I copied a poem for you called The Rainbow Bridge. It was sent to me by a friend and helped me with my grief when I lost a dog years ago, I hope it will help you too.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
