Cannon Art Gallery in Carlsbad November December 2012 Exhibit
The newest exhibit at the Cannon Art Gallery in Carlsbad is titled “Full Deck – A Short History of Skate Art.”
The city-owned Cannon Art Gallery has a fine reputation for the breadth and depth of its exhibits; “National quality with a regional focus. Variety and balance. Introduction of new work to the region. Engaging new audiences” [from exhibit marketing piece] are some of the primary goals f the gallery and they are met admirably.
In this newest exhibit, “Full Deck,” over 275 skateboards, skate decks, photos and art from the 1960s to the present adorn the walls of the Cannon Art Gallery, a vivid reminder of the individual self-expression found in skate boarding itself.
A skateboard collection from the early 60’s, plus rare commercial skate decks are just some of the unique finds at this exhibit, open to the public until December 30, 2012. Distinctive displays of the visual arts are common in the skate boarding culture in the skateboards, as well as in multimedia including music, clothing, video, advertising, painting and much more.
The “Full Deck” exhibit is an amazing statement about that culture so prevalent here in Southern California, and so closely linked to surfing.
