I recently indexed the photos on the hard drive of my computer. There are over thirty thousand, with plenty more on other drives scattered about the house.
As most of my readers know, I am a still photographer. There is something magical about capturing a single instant of time through the lens.
There is no movement, no audio, nothing to distract the viewer from the final composition of the shot. The message conveyed is NOT overt, but must be implied by the amount of tangible information displayed in the photograph.
It is the responsibility of the photographer to ensure that the visual presentation is sufficient to deliver the desired effect.
It is not enough to present a “pretty” picture.
Good photographs must have a purpose!
