Great Option For Unwanted & Excessive Catalogs

I don't think that a single day goes by -- except for Sunday of course -- that we don't receive at least one catalog in the mail.  And for more than half of them, I have no idea how we got on their mailing list.

But the other day on the Today Show I saw an awesome website that will help rid me of all of these catalogs that go straight into my recycling bin.  It's called CatalogChoice.org.

And it is so easy to do!  All you have to do is go to their website and click on "Get Started".  Then you just set up a free account and your ready to clean up your mailbox.

It's so easy, and it sure beats trying to call the merchant and get your name off of their list that way.

According to their site, The Catalog Choice community is presently 493,221 persons strong, having already opted out of 5,883,249 catalogs.  That is fantastic!  Think of all of the trees that have been spared.

And it's actually really good for the merchants, too.  They get to save tons of money in print and postage.  Now only the customers that want their catalog and are looking to buy something from them will be the ones receiving their mailings.  It's really a win-win all the way around.

And although it may take up to 60 days to finally get your name out of their system, it will be quite refreshing to not get all of those unwanted and useless catalogs any longer.

That's a crazy cool way to opt out of mags. I don't get quite that many although it seems to be getting more and more. Maybe one day I'll need to use it!

Wonderful info.    I daily walk straight from the mailbox to the garbage can.   I only open a very few of the catalogs,  but chunk tons of them.     A real waste of resources for certain.

Marie:  I get magazines and so much junk mail that it is running me out of my office and my home.  I've gotten covered up lately with brochures, etc. from of all people, Realtors, sending me everything their Chamber of Commerce must have to offer.  It's overwhelming and even if I wanted all of that material, I certainly do not have the time to read it.  This is good information and I will check out the site.  Thank you.

Lindsey: We seem to get a new catalog every week.  Hope this site comes in handy when you get overwhelmed.

Connie: We don't read or even look at a majority of the catalogs we receive.  This site is going to save a lot of those wasted resources.

This is a great tip!  Magazines and catalogs cannot be recycled here on Maui and I hate throwing them out.  I will have to check out the website!

Lisa: I hate hearing that you have no way to recycle all of those catalogs and magazines, but I hope this site helps clean up your mailbox!

I did that one time but I couldn't tell that it made any difference. Good luck with it, hope it helps.

Judi:  I hope it did but that you were just getting new ones.  I'm optimistically thinking that this will work.

That's fantastic, I'm doing it right now.  It is so wasteful... I don't even look at them.  They go straight from the mailbox to the recycle bin, never even make it into the house.

Thank you for the link. What a good way to contribute to save the environment! Let's do everything possible to prevent receiving those unsolicited catalogs.

As a person who worked for a catalog company one Christmas if you buy one thing from ANY catalog company they sell your name to every other one out there. They make more from selling your name than they do the actual sale.

Todd: Thanks for that info.  That explains alot.  I kinda guessed that it worked like that, but hopefully this will help stop a large amount of that waste.  Of course they will still continue to sell our information, but this gives the consumer a fighting chance to stop them.
