New Hampshire Home Stager Shares Simple Christmas Decorating Ideas

No need to get overwhelmed when it comes to decorating your home for the holidays.  The best thing about Christmas decorating is that you can create a great look using what you already have.

You don't have to be a Home Stager to decorate your house for Christmas.  Spend some time online or reading  magazines and determine the look you want and the colors you want to use.

Pull out all your past Christmas decorations....you probably have forgotten many of the pieces you have and will be surprised how easily they can be repurposed.

Here's how I decorated at my house this year:

First, the Family Room....

This is where the grandbabies spend most of their time so I had to keep it very simple.

I spray painted some gold ornaments blue and when the paint was dry, I spread on some Elmers Glue and dipped them in Epsom Salts for a fresh new look.

I gave new life to my garland by adding pinecones and ornaments.

It's really easy to create a holiday look on shelves simply by adding glass, greens, and ornaments.

Now for the Dining Room....

Here's a very simple way to decorate your windows for the holidays.

Hang ornaments with ribbon.

I attached the ribbon to the valance using safety pins.  You could also attach the ribbon to the window frame with tacks.

For a centerpiece I simply filled a bowl with ornaments.

Decorating your home for Christmas should be fun!

As long as your home is not on the market, it should reflect your taste and your style.  Whether you go elegant or whimsical there is no right or wrong....

go with your heart and create a look that makes you smile!

Sally:  Thank you!  The main floor (dining, living, kitchen, powder room) are decorated using gold and red/burgundy....colors I've been using for years.  The family room is downstairs and has a dark blue carpet so I took this opportunity to use blue and change it up a bit.  I love it!

I'll be looking forward to your entry!

Janice:  I hope once you do, you are going to share with us!

Alexandra:  It's a lot of work no matter how simple you keep it.  What comes out must go back in once the season is over.  I really didn't want to buy much new since I already own so much.  I'm happy that I chose to work with what I had.

Sharon, fabulous photos and bunches of great ideas.  I especially like the painted and dipped ornaments, the simple centerpiece, the added-to garland, the ornaments hanging in the window.  Okay, love them all!  You did a beautiful job of pulling these together.  I bet you're a great stager in the Portsmouth, New Hamshire, area too.  Merry Christmas to you and yours - I know it will be a festive one.  :-)

Sharon, I never thought of using Epsom Salts for snow.  You made that holiday decorating look easy, but I guess that's what they say a pro does...makes difficult things look easy.  My wife used to be very energetic about holiday decorations, but not any more.  It feels more like a chore.  Having children and grandchildren make it more fun and worthwhile, I think.

Lloyd:  My daughter Jaime read the Epsom Salt idea somewhere online.  I can't take credit for the idea as my own.  I'm more like your wife than you realize....I don't have the motivation I used to when it comes to decorating for the holidays.  Each thing I've done has been with the dread of knowing I will have to "undo" it before Spring.  Having the kids does make a difference, but it's true you do lose steam as you get older.

Shar:  True, it's a win win!

Michelle:  As I told Lloyd...not my original idea, but a good one!

Sharon,

This is a very happy post and it's inspiring to people like me who aren't creative when it comes to home decorating. You make it look and sound so beautiful.

Thank you for the encouragement. I also like how you shared the family room tip, keeping children in mind and making it simple and enjoyable, safe too for grandbabies.

These are GREAT ideas!

Patricia:  Thank you.  I am still decorating....when will it end?  I keep thinking I'm not doing any more and then I find myself in another project.  Hope to post some more pics tomorrow.
