Why on Earth Would Someone Become a Redfin Agent?

Hi, I'm Glenn Kelman, Redfin's CEO. I'm new to the ActiveRain community, but see from reading what has been said about Redfin that I should have joined the conversation years ago. I'm sorry about that.

Whenever a Redfin issue arises that affects the whole real estate community, I'll try to post an update here but also would be happy to respond to any and all questions, complaints and comments about Redfin. My email address is glenn (at) redfin (dot) com.

The reason for my posting today is that Redfin just published a video about why people become Redfin agents. I make a corny appearance at the beginning and the end, but mostly we just ask Redfin agents what they like about it here. Folks respond in very genuine ways:

Redfin has already published how much a Redfin agent really earns compared to other folks in the industry, but never talked about the emotional reasons people like it here:

  • A company that supports you, financially & emotionally, when you do the right thing for a client.
  • A team that pitches in when you need to take a Sunday afternoon off or put your kids to bed. 
  • Clients who sit on the couch with you, not across the table, because they feel you're on their side.
  • The ability to focus on what you love about real estate: working with clients, not looking for clients.
  • Top-rated online & mobile tools for collaborating with clients and building your local reputation.
  • Exposure to more customers in one year than you might otherwise get in five.
  • Health-care, retirement and other benefits for your family. 
  • Career development: folks who started as assistant agents now run Maryland and San Diego for Redfin. Others run our partner program and our lender & inspector network.

We don't pretend to be the only broker offering agents good careers, but we do believe that many folks in the industry are less likely to understand the career decisions that Redfin agents make.

We recorded the video to account for these decisions and because, like many brokers, we're still recruiting, even through the slow season. Before we posted the video on our own site, I thought we'd ask you what you think?

Hey Glenn,

I will take a look at Redfin and see about possibly making some choices about your product/company - i am right now with Keller Williams and have the Market Leader pro sites and two other 'Wordpress with IDX' sites ....might want to hear more about what Redfin has to offer vs some of the other companies..
