Do You Know Your YouTube EKG?
This is my EKG. Looks like I’m alive and well.
It reminds me of the real thing, which I’ve had done a couple of times for routine testing.
It's actually my YouTube EKG.
Do you know YOUR YouTube EKG?
Clueless?
Well, head over to your YouTube Channel’s dashboard and check out the analytics available to you.
Like our blog posts, it’s great to be able to see the activity our channel and videos are getting, which videos are the most popular (sometimes a surprise) and more.
I found, when looking the other day, that folks have spent a total of about 88 DAYS looking at my videos (that’s some 127,000+ minutes of viewing), and over 93,000 views since my first upload in 2007. My top video, which was done on a lark, has garnered over 8600 views. I've had calls from it and picked up a client, too.
Video works!!I had another video about Carlsbad that resulted in a call, that turned into a short term rental, then a $1.2 million sale in only 4 months.
There’s a wealth of information here to help understand how your videos are being viewed and by whom, and you can vary the time frame, which will be affected by when you uploaded particular videos and how many are active at the time (e.g., the month, in the last year, lifetime).
You can look at your demographics (gender, age, country), likes (and perhaps dislikes), subscribers, playback locations (13% of my lifetime views are on mobile devices, and my guess is that is going to increase – in fact when I check just for 2012 the number is 28%), average view duration, what videos have been shared, and a key data point – traffic source (e.g., YouTube search, Google).
