As many of you know, a year and half ago, we were featured on the TV show Sell This House. They found my blog on Active Rain, and ironically, and coincidentally, the home they were working on happened to be a past customer of mine, so our work spoke for itself.
The host of the show liked me and loved the concept of The Flooring Girl (I had just launched my website 2 weeks before that). So, he called me The Flooring Girl everytime I walked into the room and incorporated it into the script. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to him and me, they cut out all my scenes, but they still featured our work. I was still able to leverage this idea on my website and w/ my customers, so it was still great, and it was a wonderful experience.
A few months later, I got a phone call asking "Is this the Flooring Girl?" It was Charlie and he had a great customer for me. Well yesterday, it happened again. I got a call from someone and I asked how he found me. He said he met a contractor who is on a TV show and he said to look up The Flooring Girl! So, Charlie (who probably has forgotten my name by now) remembered The Flooring Girl, and this customer in Croton-on-Hudson looked me up on Google and loved my website. This sounds like a very promising and interesting job with antique wide plank pine in a historic house. I can't wait to meet this customer and so see these unique floors.
I think it also goes to show you that being unique and memorable can go a long way. I'm sure he's lost my biz card (esp since he's a hot shot movie star), but he remembered the concept. I'm going to go to his facebook page and thank him.
