Holiday Staging by a Morris County Stager

One of the things I love most about being a Morris County, NJ home stager is decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. This year I collected antiques over the past year from garage sales and antique shops like mercury glass jars, ornaments, vases and candle holders. I even found a pair of early 1900’s snow shoes!

Then I decide on a theme. This year is “An Ole’ Fashion Christmas” with real greens, a decorative Christmas tree made from drift wood and a live boxwood wreath with berries. I use lots of Christmas greens with white lights and homemade knit stockings…..from Pottery Barn.

Ideas for decorating your home for the holidays:

1. Plan out what you want to accomplish before you buy your holiday greens and decorations. Look through magazines, store fronts, Pinterest, and the Internet for lots of great ideas!

2. You don’t have to duplicate the exact look, just get ideas and use items you already have, repurposing them.  Some of you will find greens in your own backyard.

3. Use what you have:  Jars make pretty candle holders, add fake snow to lanterns, hot glue pine cones to ribbon, look for twigs and berries in your backyard for vases, silver urns or teapots and fill with greens. The point is get creative!

4. Use a theme that suits your home and style  i.e. antiques and natural colors like burlap ribbon, white wrapping paper and white lights look great in older homes. More vibrant colors like blues and pinks and colored lights look great in more contemporary spaces. Christmas doesn’t have to be red and green.

5. Use bottles of all shapes and sizes and fill with fake snow found at any craft store, holly and/or Christmas greens with a candle. Simple and elegant.

6. Make your own garland with greens tied up with green wire. Hot glue pine cones, dried roses, berries, birch chips, even sea shells - whatever you have. You can even use close pins and clip on holiday cards to your garland. Use what you have or try your local craft store.

Make it fun. If it’s feels like work you’re missing the point. Make some hot cider or eggnog, put on some holiday music and ask other members of the family to join in. There’s nothing better than including everyone and making holiday decorating a family tradition.

I found this driftwood Christmas Tree at HomeGoods for only $15.99!

Ready for Christmas/holiday parties...

Pine cones look great on your holiday table..................just don't eat them.

Make your own personal tablescape. I used pine cones from my local nursery, votive candles and mercury glass bottles for a little bling...

It's going to be a festive Christmas in the Ginsberg's home. What's wrong with that sentence??? While Marty is Jewish, I am Christian. Besides, no one loves Christmas more than my husband Marty!

Little trees look great too! Add a few bows, 50 light set and...

This is part 1 of a three part series. Part two is choosing a tree and decorating it (which is what I'm dong today.)

Part 3 is how to deck the hall outdoors

Leaving you with a little inspiration...

Happy Holidays to all at Active Rain!
