Designated??

The Cypress part of our market area has many fun discoveries .  It seems that we make new discoveries daily.

This finding involves a truism we had suspected but never really had proof of.

The sign, which is located on Cypresswood Dr. says "designated Bird Sanctuary."  Really?

Although we live in the general area and have known for some time that our yard was in a migratory path, we did not know about this sanctuary .  What makes it a sanctuary?  Who makes the designation?  Can the designation be earned, or is available only to select feathered friends.

What I am most curious about is how they notified the birds that this sanctuary is for them?  "Dear Bird.....

Do they receive notice about other areas they should plan flights through or around? Are they restricted as to when they should be there?

Are they equipped with little gpas that help them determine where they are supposed to be at different times of the year?  They may be far more sophisticated than we know.

What real difference does it make whether the sanctuary has been designated or not?  What requirements have to be met?  Who checks the sanctuary for compliance?

It is a fact that many  of us enjoy watching the varieties of birds that frequent the Cypress area.  I hope that the birds are aware of just how special they are.

So many possibilities and so few readily available answers.

It is a nice feature of the general area.  It obviously becomes less special if bird sanctuaries are everywhere.

Now that we know the little we do, I feel that we need to pay greater attention to where the designated sanctuaries are.

It may be that potential buyers will want to know where the one nearest to their proposed home is.

It is just one more little fact that Realtors should know!  And to think we thought sanctuaries were for people.
