Are you receiving several calls from vendors that are interested in offering you various services to obtain more leads by some miraculous method that they have come up with? Lately I have been receiving these calls a lot. Maybe it is an end of the year thing. Most of the telemarketers are not well equipped to answer questions about their services. They usually call into the main switchboard, ask for a successful listing agent and then call.
This sort of lead generation is not targeted to you in particular. Don't be flattered if you are the listing agent that they are attracted to. There are several other people in your office that they will call on the same day.
Definitely do not give out your credit card number. Refer back to your business plan. Is this new shiny sort of lead generation on your list of areas to focus upon? Probably not. Pass on it.
In the unlikely event that the system seems appealing - research it first. Do not leap. Call Brokers that are using the service and ask their opinion. Call Brokers that canceled the service and inquire why. Check out their online reputation. The Better Business Bureau is also a worthwhile avenue to investigate.
If you decide this service fits into your business plan ask a few more questions. Ask the vendor how they will give you referrals back. How are they planning to support your business on an on-going basis? See if you may pay them on a referral basis instead of as a monthly fee.
The sad truth is there is no magic bullet to lead generation. No matter how much your magnetic strip gets swiped it ultimately comes down to you. Get on your phone, respond to online leads with lightening speed and get up move away from your desk and go out and meet people. Direct contact is always going to be the best approach to building your business.
