The Manger Helps Williamson County Families with Christmas Gifts

The MangerThe Manger, operated by GraceWorks, helps Williamson County families with Christmas gifts. It was created to provide Christmas gifts for entire families who are struggling financially.

Parents are allowed to select gifts for each other and their children from thousands of donated items. These are not used items but brand-new items that are donated by thousands of Williamson County residents who are trying to do their part to help those in need. The Manger will even gift wrap the selected items for free. Volunteers help families “shop.”

In 2011, The Manger helped 674 families receive gifts at no cost to them.

For families who are looking to shop, The Manger is located at 109 Rand Place across from the Post Office in Franklin.

The Manger is in desperate need of donations. If you would like to assist families in Williamson County, please consider a donation to The Manger. Items for donation can be dropped off at GraceWorks located at 104 Southeast Parkway in Franklin. Please make sure the items have a label with "The Manger" printed on it.

If you aren't able to personally drop off an item for donation, you can also make a cash donation or donate through Walmart.

Below is a list of suggested items for teens and adults you can purchase as a donation. Don't forget to purchase new toys, games, puzzles and books for the smallest members of these families.

The Manger Donation List

Qualified families may also choose to receive a food box, which is delivered to their home by volunteers. More than 1,000 food boxes were delivered at Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2011. Click here for more information on the food box program.

Let's not forget what Christmas is all about. One of the absolutely wonderful things about this ministry is that The Manger helps Williamson County families with Christmas gifts. So all donations are received by local families who need assistance.

ADDENDUM ADDED 12/8: I received an email from GraceWorks today that their donations this year are not going to be able to meet their needs. They only have enough inventory for a few days. If you are reading this post and have the ability to give, please consider making a donation to this worthy cause. If you are not from the Franklin or Williamson County area, you can click donate here. Everything you donate goes directly to families in need for Christmas gifts. They especially need gifts for teenage boys. Refer to the list above for ideas.

Tammie:  The "Manger" sounds like a wonderful program, and will help many Williamson County families who otherwise might only be looking at a lump of coal, if that.

I wonder, though.  Whenever I see programs like this... I wonder if there also might be a program for "seniors" who every year spend their Christmases at home... all alone.

There are those who say that "Christmas is for Kids."  That may be true, but we must remember that so many "seniors" really ARE kids... in a way.  They're just trapped in these "old bodies" that they have to drag around with them.

Karen Anne - The Manger is not limited to just families with children. Adults are also allowed to go in and "shop".

Hi Tammie, this is such an awesome charity program. I somehow got lost with having the parents select the gifts for their family. Is this really true? If it is, this makes "The Manger" very much different from other charity programs. Thanks for sharing Top Franklin TN short sale agent.

Tammie, I was straying a bit away from the original intent of your post, and not talking about IF seniors could "shop."  I apologize for not stating myself more clearly.

There are so many seniors who will be at home all alone this coming Christmas, as well as this past Thanksgiving.  They have been forgotten or cast aside by their families, or perhaps do not have families.  Attention needs to be in their direction.

Many seniors feel abandoned... and that feeling of being so totally alone could so easily be lessened if some attention were given to their isolation.

Pat - I love that local families will benefit.

Katerina - It is a unique approach that is very popular with families.

Captain Wayne - So do I.

Erika - Yes, parents get to pick the items they would like for themselves and their children--a little different from most charities you see.

Petra - I've already purchased my donation items.

Bas - Anyone can give. Even those in other locations.

Karen Anne - I agree. The more we can do for our seniors, the better.

Debbie - I love this feature as well.

Shannon - Thank you. Everyone does have the ability to donate through the website I have linked to. Even if they don't live in my area.
